chapter one: the realisation
You know the feeling when you realise that no one loves you. When you understand that even your parents couldn’t care less about you but adore you brothers and sisters. When not a single boy looks your way and your friends don’t even notice if you’re here or not. That’s when my life completely changed. That’s when I started to think about taking drugs. No not drugs, one drug in particular, it was the beginning of my heroin addiction, and I’m telling you it was going to be the first time I had ever tasted happiness. I was on the road to heaven but also on the road to death and the worst part was that I didn’t care about the consequences, I only wanted to feel the rush, the feeling when the opium enters your body and you feel an excruciating feeling of pleasure. I started to hang out with other type of people, my oldest friends became inexistent to me. I only cared about one thing; when I was going to be able to take a shot of heroin. The drug controlled my life, I had become completely dependent on it and couldn’t last more than a few hours without it before I felt anxious and desperate for it. However, there was one problem, heroin is a very pricey drug and I couldn’t quite explain to my parents why I needed so much money for. At first I had enough saved to buy heroin regularly but I quickly ran out and being only 14 there weren’t any jobs I could do to earn money except one. I think no one truly realizes it but once you start being addicted to a drug, you lose all self respect you had towards yourself, all sense of integrity and values. You lose everything and anyone. You only think about the drug. That’s when I started to do horrible things for money. A job I think no woman could dream of doing out of her own will. It was the beginning of my prostitution days. Yet I couldn’t feel any pain. I only thought about the money I was going to make and therefore the heroin I was going to be able to consume. Heroin had become my life and there was no one and nothing that was going to change that
