SEASONS
Saplings unfurling from the earth
Pushing through the weathered crust as they
Reach avidly for the first blissful rays of warmth
Inhaling the freshness of a breeze carrying
Nuances of floral undertones along with
Glittering, diaphanous raindrops.
Spilling forth now, a cacophony of colour erupts,
Unencumbered by the frosty shackles of
Months past as the sun reclaims its place in the sky,
Meandering lazily from east to west,
Emitting iridescent waves of warmth and
Riding endlessly ahead of the Moon.
Auburn colours fall from sun bleached trees.
Underfoot, a carpet of fiery gold crunches and crackles,
Traces of long lazy days etched into leafy veins burnished
Under hot skies, now just bittersweet
Memories as the cool winds return,
Nudging aside the lingering remnants of red sunsets.
Withered limbs stretch to the cool, grey heavens
In search of forgotten treasure, blighted by the bite of the
Night air that swirls and whips in endless frigid eddies,
Tapping and howling at warmly-lit windows with
Endless persistence, unceasing until the wondrous
Reappearance of...
Saplings unfurling from the earth...
As the cycle of life begins once more.
