Dear Mother,

In the darkest moments,

I think about you.

Most of the time it makes me cry;

But it makes me smile, too.

I try to think of you

As if you’re still here;

But then I go to look for you,

To find you’re nowhere near.

I need you now more than ever,

As I fight to stay strong.

I’ve been holding a lot in;

I’ve been quiet for so long.

Since you have left,

I have no one to run to;

Everyone I’ve ever known is gone,

And sadly, so are you.

I’ve told myself to keep smiling,

To hold my head up high;

For I know I’ll see you again one day,

The day that I die.

Until then, I’ll be here;

Holding on to the past.

Once I see you, I’ll let go

And I’ll be happy at last.
