Summary

“Time watch? Check. List of time periods? Check.” I checked off the last thing off my check list. “ Terry? Check!” I groaned annoyed and glared at the girl “ you’re not coming with me rookie.” “ Yes I am we gotta fix the time balance together.”

Chapter 1

I stepped through the portal, it faded away once I was through. I peered across the room as I observed my surroundings, a bed made of cotton and wool that looked like it was meant for a small child loomed against the wall covered in dust and spider webs. At the foot of the bed stood a chest painted gold as if it was brand new, the gold shimmered for a brief moment as lightning flash through the window, the curtains surrounding it danced frantically as a storm boomed outside. I flinched and held up my hands in defense, this sound was unknown to me, as was this furniture What is this place? I thought. Growing curious I stepped towards the chest leaving behind dusty boots prints in my trial, once I made my way over to the chest, I crouched down to examine further details. In the gold paint were markings I couldn’t make out, I pressed my hands against the lids and forcefully pried it open. Coughing slightly as puffs of dust emerged from the chest, after catching my breath I leaned over and peered inside I saw something glistening as lightning cracked through the window once more. Becoming more curious I reached inside and felt something sharp, the lighting started to crack at repetitive pace, at every crack I could make out the shining object. It was a knife. A knife covered in blood. My eyes darted around the room in a panic, looking for any sign of danger, finding nothing but children’s’ toys and items, I looked at the knife then around the room once more seeing everything clearly as the lightning cracked, the whole room covered in dust and webs. I looked back at the knife and sighed and muttered quietly “What happened here?” I stood up facing the rest of the room, I walked towards the window, holding the knife. Once at the windowsill I gazed outside as the room filled with blue and red lights I need to find what exactly happened in this room I thought as I saw people in blue uniforms climb out of the car. I took out a small purple egg out from my pocket then smashed it on the floor. The shell disappeared, purple smoke emerged, filling the room. I put my gas mask on as I waited for the smoke clear. Once it did, I looked down, seeing I was no longer carrying the knife Everything must have reset. That must mean... I looked out the window once more, no police cars in sight. I sighed as I stood in the corner of the room and waited. Ten minutes have gone by as two people wearing uniforms charged into the room, one threw discs at the wall and the room became illuminated by blue lights, I knew they couldn’t see me because I was not of this time, I watched them trash the room, flipping the bed over, tearing apart the walls, I observed them for a while until I noticed something. These people are not the people from before. They wear something that looked like a suit but with square glass heads. Who are these people and why are they here? While I was lost in my thoughts I noticed they turned to me, as if they could see me but that was impossible. Each time period that is not my own, those in that time period can not see me. We stared at each other for a while until they looked away and continued thrashing the room. Who are these guys? I watched as they ripped the bed apart with something that resembled a spear, one of them muttered something, pointing to the chest. The second one walked over to the chest and slowly opened the lid as if it was excepting some form of danger. I heard them ‘talk’ back and forth until the one by the bed walked out of the room then came back with a large sack. I watched as they dumped all the contents of the chest into the bag, I could only see brief glimpses of the objects cause hitting the sack they were out of view. I saw the knife, a wolf stuffed animal, three silver rings one with blue lights, one with green stripes and one with purple jewels, I also saw something that resembled a time watch. It looked just like my own but it looked like it was painted over, looking a little closer I could see green paint, that was starting to fade. Who lived in this room? Why did they have a time watch? Why are these guys collecting those items? Questions bounced in my head as I watched the duo take the stuff then toss the chest onto the ground. I looked at my watch and sighed I’ve been here too long I gotta go before I get stuck I looked up to see the pair still in the room. I knew it was a risk opening up a portal with others from the time period in the room, but I had no choice! I pressed the button on my watch and a portal appeared on the other side of the room. The duo noticed it and looked at it curiously. Dammit! I quickly got up and ran across the room, shoving past them and diving into the portal. I landed in the hallway of the office with a worried and panicked expression, my associates looked at me with confusion, others with anger.

"What happened?” One asked as I stood up, adjusting my uniform.

"Something is wrong with the time balance.” I breathed out, trying to catch my breath knowing running isn’t my thing.

"What time period were you in?”

"What did you see?”

"You sure something’s wrong?”

I was bombed with questions until a voice yelled out.

"Quiet! Let Midnight talk!” I mentally groaned knowing who the voice belonged to.

"A time watch has been stolen,” I whispered worriedly.
