Voices of the unknown

It is said that the right man in the right place can make all the difference, but can the right man in the wrong place do the same?

You suddenly wake up on the ground, cold and nauseous, you can feel the icy stones beneath. You try to open your eyes and barely manage to do so, only to observe a cluster of radiant shivering flairs all over your vision radius. In the distance, two grunting voices can be heard having an argument. Their presence resounds throughout your body, making you feel vulnerable and uneasy. As the chilling stones bite into your flesh, you decide that it is time to stand up and try to figure out what is happening. While carefully trying to move, you notice one major aspect, you are chained and immobilized. Trying to shout for help is not an option - you conclude, so you try to listen carefully to those two.

“Hear me, you imbecile, you shall not prevail this time! That eye is mine and mine only. You and your petty servants stayed in my way for too long!“, you can hear an edgy and sinister sound of a blade being drawn, “Watch me, I will repay you in blood and terror, you are no match to my power, not in life, not in death. You and your petty slaves should leave, for your end is waiting around the corner.”

Suddenly, a deathly silence pressures your heart, but then you can hear the demonic figure heavily breathing.

“Oh, sweet Angoth Or, will you ever realize that your time is long gone?” giggles, “Can’t you see that we came to cleanse this land of your foul and cursed presence? You wish to defeat us, you wish to take the eye... for what reasons? To feast upon the souls of the people? To enslave helpless souls and bound them to your grandly sickened will? Well then, we cannot allow such acts this time, can we? And one more thing, the eye is a relic of our ancestor, it is true that we both descend from Him, but not in a thousand millennia will I believe that Or Aethvaryn would have wanted his power to be used for such miserable deeds. I had enough of your troublesomeness.”

You can hear the sound of a crystal being shattered as the portal connecting the two closes.

“Curses to you, curses to your order!“, sound of rocks being crushed, “I will drown you all... I will drown you in oceans of blood!“, breathes heavily.

At this point, your heart is racing and you wish you were dead, although you are not entirely sure whether you are in hell or not. You are finally able to see dim shadows which become clearer by the seconds, you discover that you are being held in an iron cage. You gaze upon the surrounding walls, the chamber you are being held in is immense, you would rather believe it’s a hall. There is not much to be seen around except for some boulders that form ominous and grotesque structures. Heavy trembling steps, you can hear them, they are getting louder. ‘Is this the end?’, you ask yourself, ‘What on earth is happening, I cannot remember a thing!’. You quickly notice that a large portion of the wall starts moving as it makes space for an apparently hidden entrance. You gasp and choke as you see him, an evil looking creature. He is as tall as a horse standing on two legs, as strong as fifty bears, as sinister as your worst nightmares. Just by looking at him you feel like fainting but something stops you from doing so. He eyes you and smiles widely making his sharklike teeth visible, his horns are bloodied and his eyes pitch black. He starts levitating, thus you find out that he has got wings which he uses to slowly glide towards his prey. He descends onto you and caresses your frightened sweaty face.

“It seems that someone has finally woken up, isn’t it so?“, laughs hysterically, “It is unbelievable how fortunate is to have you down here, old friend.”

You try to open your mouth to speak, but the only thing you can say is just some stuttered words.

“What... what - ugh - what is the meaning of this?“, you say.

The gigantic creature bursts into laughter. He is laughing so vigorously that the whole chamber starts shaking.

“You are looking for a meaning? Let’s make it short then. You are my servant, how you got here is none of your concern as of now. If you want to survive you must obey and carry out my will. Do you understand, mortal?”

A feeble squeak and a nod is the only response you can offer.

“Wonderful, wouldn’t have expected you to be such a good and understanding collaborator. To put it short, you shall be my missionary into the realm of mortals, I have this quarrel of mine with an old... acquaintance. You shall go there and execute what is needed to be done.“, he stares at you with his eyes widely open and a sinister smile.

“Yes... B-but, what is it that I have to do?“, you ask.

He starts laughing hysterically once more.

“Where is the beauty and amusement in telling you straightly forward? You shall find out, I will make sure to guide you and provide sufficient hints once you get there.”

The demon unchains you and puts you on your feet. His sinister touch feels strange, as if it was pouring life back into your body.

“All your questions shall be answered, at their time though. For now, you are in my service. Listen carefully now as I will hand you the first instructions. I am sending you to an island, you shall look for a farm nearby the spawning point. Look for a man called AnCormac, he knows what to do next.", he promptly says.

You feel fully reinvigorated, he hands you a dagger and a sack.

“Take these, they might come in handy”, he says.

You want to ask him what is inside the sack but he pushes you into a freshly spawned portal. Traveling through space takes only a moment, you are being thrown from one dimension to another.

You find yourself in a small field near a grove. It is night but the starry sky accompanied by a silver moon provides enough light for you to comprehend your surroundings. You look around and notice some houses not far away, so you start walking towards them.

The warm breeze compliments your ash colored skin, you feel unexpectedly comforted, as if you were in the presence of a lover. Most of the houses are not lit, the people are probably sleeping, but you notice one that springs out shadows and light. ‘There shall I go’, you say to yourself. Upon getting to the door you start knocking gently, yet hard enough to be sure of being heard. An old olive-skinned woman opens the door and looks at you both surprised and terrified.

“What are you doing here?!“, she angrily shouts while reaching for her pocket.
