Her hair as brown as chocolate
Her eyes soft and sweet
So gentle
So kind
Our mother
Shining like a star
She smiled her way through life
Even when dad left
Even when we were devils
She smiled
She showed kindness
She was mother
But as the leaves turn brown
Her smile grows thin
Her skin gaunt
And thin
She coughs a lot now
Stays in the house
Now as the evening dies down
She lays here in this small bed
Smiling as she holds our hands
Me and brothers
She smiles and says it’s ok
She smiles for us
For him
For the stars that dim with envy
And then let’s go
Leaving us within the night
To guide us from the stars
