When I was in grade school, I remember meeting this one girl.
She had the brightest red hair and the biggest smile that would win her The Perfect Smile Of The Year award. Her eyes where of a grass green color with flakes of blue and yellow rays. They seemed to shine and twinkle whenever she smiled and it was pretty how it went well along with her light skin tone and red hair.
She was a nature type of girl, loving to jump onto puddles of mud and watch as caterpillars turned into monarch butterflies. Even though she always had these expensive clothing and elegant poses, she never seemed to mind to get dirty and be a child.
We were friends back then, giving each other answers to a problem and making sandcastles at a beach on a Saturday afternoon.
We had fun together, stuck like paper and glue. We told each other everything: of our dreams and nightmares.
The only reason I remember her now as nine years have passed is because of the New Era Magazine.
A woman with the more mature image of my childhood friend is on the front cover, sitting down elegantly on a white chair while wearing a black jumpsuit that has blue-green strikes running up and down from the sides. Her green eyes seemed to be cheery and playful, the words Successful Video Game Designer on top of her portrait.
I snapped my jaw close as I got over my shock of seeing my old school friend, Amber, on the front page of a popular magazine.
If it weren't for my boredom and not a single entertainment in sight, I wouldn't have caught sight of the magazine.
As an 18 year old teenager who's just starting her summer vacations, I don't normally read magazines. I like reading ebooks or just watching pure television shows and movies for entertainment. I can't stand the act of reading about the lives of famous people that I give no single shit about. They can just kiss my ass.
Anyways, Amber. When we were 8, our 3rd grade teacher had asked her what she wanted to do when she grew up. She had responded quietly with a shy grin, her lips turning bright as she nibbled on them.
"I want to make my own video game."
She had said and half of the class snickered or nodded in acceptance. I just grinned along with her and told her that that was an awesome thing to want to do.
Now, I just can't believe it. She had managed to make her own video game designing career at a very young age. Heck, I just finished high school last week and now she is releasing her very first game on a Monday.
Wait!
Today is Monday. Holy wack-a-molie!
I got up from the black chair and dropped the magazine onto the stacks of magazines on the glass coffee table. With the hype I was in, I ran towards where my brother was exiting from the video game store with a bag in hand. I squealed loudly, dragging people's attention towards me as I tackled my brother to the ground.
We fell down and my brother groaned in pain, muttering curses under his breath.
"Oops." I said and got up from my brother.
I didn't mean to tackle him to the ground. He's literally a brick house and shouldn't have been easy to take down by a short girl like me.
My brother just continued to groan, rubbing the back of his head in pain. He glared at me with his amber colored eyes, lips twirling up into a snarl.
"What the fuck is your problem?" He muttered to me. He got up from the ground, dusting his back from the unrealistic lint that was on the back of his clothing.
"Sorry. Didn't mean to." I said, twirling my thumbs together behind my back.
I really didn't mean to jump him to the ground. I was just so happy that I couldn't withhold myself from hugging someone.
My brother sighed and swooped down to pick up his bag.
"It's fine. Let's just go home. I already got what we came here for." He said, grinning at the end.
He actually seemed happy to finally get the video game that he had been begging mom and dad to give him money for.
I didn't know what type of game he had bought since I didn't spend my time playing them. What I did know about the game was that it was popular and mouthwatering for some since we had to wait in a long line in front of the game store to buy it. Damn, the nights surely can be cold at a super mall.
Anyways, when the doors to the game store opened, we were lucky to be first because then everyone jumbled in to get the chance of buying the game first.
My brother seemed like he was about to cry as he held the bag closer to his chest.
"You poor thing. Don't worry, I'll play you soon." He said to the bag.
I raised an eyebrow and twirled around. I don't think I can stand watching my brother talk sexually to a bag, let alone a bag with a game inside.
We walked outside of the store and into the breezy side of the city. The tower we where in was tall, grey, and busy. It held about 50 floors and was in the process of getting another one. The tower had a sidewalk on all floors, bridges connecting to the other buildings near it. People walking on it to get to another shop or small business in the tower.
Since me and my brother are twins, (gosh, I still can't get over the fact we're related) and neither of us have a license to drive, we stick to riding electric bikes or taking public transportation's. I know, it's a hassle, but I don't mind riding the electric bikes. They are fun and easy to handle.
"Where to next?" I asked my brother. We stood near a bridge that connected to another building to the east. It was busy, with people passing by us, not giving us a single glance.
Ruben looked at me and then held up his bag. "Go home, eat, and then play this baby." He said.
I rolled my eyes, and followed him to our electric bikes.
