Omar
It’s been nearly a year since our Saviors first met and saved each other, but now it’s time for a new story. A story where a new face is revealed. It is time to show the world the power of the warriors of the dark.
Our new friend sighed as he turned off his camera. He just finished recording a video with his best friend, who had almost given him a heart attack by literally jumping from the roof to jumpscare him. His friend was still laughing after the topic was brought up.
“Come on, man,” said his friend with a chuckle. “You would be laughing too if you jump scared me like that.”
“You’re right,” he replied with a smile. “But we should get more people to play with us.”
“Yeah. If no one else plays, then the pumpkin monster always wins. Oh well, I’ll see you around, Omar.”
“See ya, Sam.”
Yes, you read that right. Our new friend is friends with Samuel Mattson in real life and now it’s time for him to see The Dream World and his new friends.
Omar Sebal was fast asleep in his bed when someone or something violently shook him awake.
“Come on, Omar,” said the voice. He woke only to be face to face with a girl wearing a short white dress and pitch-black hair. This girl seemed familiar to the jet black-haired man, yet he didn’t know why. “They're coming.”
“Hello, sexy mama!” Omar replied in delight. If there was one thing that Omar couldn’t resist it was pretty women. “What brings you here?”
As much as the lady wanted to slap him for not paying attention to her words, she caressed his cheek trying her hardest to woe him over.
“Omar, there’s something evil on its way,” she said in a worried tone. “It wants to eat us alive.”
“Well, you have nothing to worry about because whatever’s coming is messing with the wrong Sebal!” The lady sighed in delight as Omar got out of his bed ready to protect the lady from whatever was coming. “So what does it look like?”
“I... I don’t know... I just know that it’ll claim to be on your side and try to take you away from me!”
“Don’t worry; I got this.” Not long after he said that something crashed against his window face first making a loud thud startling both Omar and the lady. “Woah. Didn’t expect that.”
Whoever was outside, opened the window, climbed in, and hobbled to the closest thing that could help him keep his balance.
“Don’t worry,” he said as he held his head which was covered by a dark purple biker’s helmet with small black dots. He removed it to reveal his dark oak hair and chocolate brown eyes. A look that Omar knew too well. “I’m okay. I’m okay! Hey, Omar.”
“SAM!? YOU’RE THE EVIL THING THAT WANTS TO HURT US?!”
“What?”
“It’s here!” the lady said as she held on to Omar’s arm. “It’s going to kill us; stop it!”
“Hold up,” said Omar. “Why would Sam want to hurt us? Sam wouldn’t hurt a fly.”
“Yeah. I would never hurt my FRIENDS. Nightmares on the other hand... well... that’s a different story...”
“Omar! He IS a Nightmare! Kill him!”
“Wait, what IS a ‘Nightmare’?”
“A Nightmare is something that feeds off of negative emotions and when the victim gives up, the Nightmare eats them and takes over their body. Not much can be done here in The Dream World when that happens. It’s up to the people in The Real World to fix them but to prevent that, there are people like me to save them. Come on, Omar. Help me help others.”
“Don’t listen to him, Omar! He’s one of them! You can’t trust the Saviors!” Omar listened to her words over and over again and to what Sam said. He then yanked his arm away from the lady with an angry look on his face. “Omar!”
“Sam never said that he was called a Savior.”
“...Yes, he did...”
“No, he didn’t.”
“Yes... he did...”
“No. I didn’t. Nice catch, Omar.”
Omar fist-bumped Sam as the lady growled. Sam pulled out his battle-ax ready to defend his best friend as she transformed before them.
Skin blacker than coal, eyes whiter than snow, teeth sharper than blades, and larger than a bear ripping the dress she was wearing. Omar backed away, frightened by the Nightmare standing before them. Sam gave him a whistle.
“Omar,” said Sam as he blocked the Nightmare’s attack. “I want you to blow this whistle. It’ll call a friend of mine. Do you know how to ride a bike?”
“Kinda, but-”
“Good! Now get on, jump off the edge, and start the engine!”
“Wait, what?!” Sam pushed the Nightmare away and placed Omar on the bike. Omar held on to the handles of the bike afraid of falling into the abyss below. “Sam, I don’t know about this!”
“Just trust me!” Sam said as the Nightmare missed him knocking Omar off the edge.
Omar screamed as he tried to start the engine. He was afraid for his life as he kept revving the engine. Omar blew the whistle as loud as he could, but nobody came to help him. Once the engine started, Omar made the motorcycle fly upward towards his house just as Sam was jumping off.
“Sam!” yelled Omar as he extended his hand. “Grab my hand!”
Sam complied holding his hand out grabbing Omar’s hand and got onto his bike. The Nightmare screeched as they flew away from the house in the sky.
“Phew,” said Sam as he put his battle-ax in its respective place. “That could have gone better, but at least you’re safe.”
“SAFE?! WHAT THE HELL WAS UP WITH HER!? I get that she’s a Nightmare and she wants the Omar D, but WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED AND WHERE ARE WE GOING?!”
“You were almost turned into a Nightmare’s lunch. If I didn’t arrive when I did, you probably would have turned into a monster in The Real World. Right now, we’re going to my Soul Space. Just dive down into the water below us.”
Omar sighed as he dived down. He turned to Sam with concern in his face.
“Uh, Sam? I can’t breathe underwater.”
“Don’t worry. You’ll be fine. Honest.”
Splash went Sam and Omar as they dived into the ocean blue. Sam took control while Omar looked at his surroundings. Sea creatures of all different shapes, colors, and sizes swam past them while seaweed swayed and coral grew as they descended deeper and deeper. In the distance, Omar could see Sam’s Soul Space.
Made out of cool colored coral reefs, Sam’s Soul Space stood in the shape of Atlantis while seaweed flags calmy swayed with an anime salmon printed on them. Along the sandy ground was shellfish of every species crawling around while sharks swam around the outside walls guarding the underwater castle. Within the castle walls, people were swimming from one area to another. All of which had adapted to the environment.
“Holy shit, man,” said Omar as they slowed to a stop. “Your Soul Space is amazing!”
“Thanks,” replied Sam as they got off the bike. It transformed into a small stick that fit perfectly into the other holder on Sam’s sash. “But didn’t anyone come to help you?”
“No. I blew into the whistle as hard as I could. I made as much noise as possible, but no one showed up.”
“That’s weird. I hope she’s okay.”
“Who?”
“My friend. We saved each other when I was just learning the basics of being a Savior along with a few other people. If we’re lucky enough, she didn’t come to help is because she was too far away to hear you or she just wasn’t paying attention again. Happens a lot so I’m used to it.”
Omar nodded his head, questioning why his friend didn’t say her name, as some of the people stared at him whispering. Omar noticed this and brushed it off thinking that they were questioning if he was the real Omar Sebal. He also noticed that their hands had some kind of webbing in between their fingers and their lower-halves were fins or a tail.
A whale moaned throughout the sea making everyone stop what they were doing. Sam sighed while everyone else swam towards the center on the castle surrounding Sam, Omar, and a few other people.
“Sam? What’s going on? Why are they surrounding us?”
“It’s time to make a toast,” he replied as everyone gathered around them. “Tonight, we’re here to honor our newest members of The Salmon Squad. Welcome, Zach Zed, Kai Lee, Brian O’Neil, Christopher Paul, Jamison Jackson, and Omar Sebal to The Salmon Squad.”
Everyone cheered welcoming the newest members to their new home before they make their own Soul Spaces and save other people. Omar smiled as he received all sorts of greetings from the people, but something stood out to him once everyone left to do their own thing. There were statues made of coral.
“Sam, are these statues of everyone here?”
“Yes, they are. My friend had something similar, but she had windows of me and our friends. Like the windows, each statue shows who we are on the inside. Yours should be here soon, but would you like to take a look at mine?”
“Sure.”
Sam guided Omar to the center of his castle where his coral statue stood tall. Sam’s coral statue had him holding a heart in his hands while his battle-ax rested against his back. A crown was on his head while fish swam around the statue occasionally slowing down to enjoy the statue. Omar could sense a strong theme of honesty and loyalty coming from the statue and he was amazed, to say the least.
“That’s impressive, Sam,” he said. “Is this what your ‘window’ looked like?”
“Just about... To be honest, I miss my friend’s castle...”
“What’s her name?”
“The name she told me to call her is Luna, but she has many names that she goes by. Tiff, Jay, and I called her Luna while Gish called her Alex. He even knew her real name before we accidentally met in real life. I... I haven’t heard from Luna in a while now...”
“You have her number, right?”
“Yeah, but she hasn’t responded to any of my texts or calls and I haven’t heard from her here...”
“Could she be lost?”
“Lost how? Lost to the Nightmares or lost in the space between the Soul Spaces?”
“I mean lost in space.”
“Maybe. It would explain why I can’t contact her in either.”
Omar hummed in response as another whale moaned signifying that it was time to leave The Dream World much to Omar and Sam’s disappointment.
“We have to wake up now, Omar. We’ll continue this conversation in The Real World, okay?”
Omar nodded as lights started to cover everyone in the castle. Omar opened his eyes to find himself safe in his bedroom and his house wasn’t floating in the air. He sighed as he thought about The Dream World. He wanted to know more about it and Sam’s other friends since this was the first time Sam brought them up. Most importantly, he wanted to know who Luna was.
