Jacks POV

“There he is!” Yelled the malums who were after me. “GET HIM!” My only thought at that moment was… RUN. That’s the only thing I have known for the last few years. Run and hide. I dashed up the mountain throwing rocks behind me. I knew I only lost them for a second, but I was winded so I had to rest. After a few seconds I kept running. Then I came to a dead end. “Nowhere to go, quick boy?” Said a voice behind me. I swivelled around and the malum that seemed like the leader said “Looks like we have some lunch, boys.” As he approached me, an arrow went through one of their heads, then another. Each shot hitting its mark. The leader snarled and ran, but he wasn’t fast enough. An arrow hit him in the trapezius (the area between your shoulder blades.) His arms jerked back and then, quick as a flash, a man ran up and tied his arms like that. When I got the chance to look at him I realised he wasn’t a man at all, this was an elf. Not a Christmas elf, or a house elf, no. This elf was very tall and had a bow and quiver. He had flowing blonde hair. His armor looked very light and had some blue. The color of his eyes was the same blue on his armor. “My name is Blaesedrin, I am a scout and general in the army of Mácu.” “Blaise, who is this?” Asked a man with a very long spear riding a blue dragon, who, was also very heavily armoured. “Come with us.” Said Blaise. “Oh, and you might need this.” He tossed me a sword. As we traveled down the mountain we ran into a pack of malums who were sitting around a campfire. “Blaise.” Said the dragon man, “You know what to do.” Blaise smirked, but said nothing. He climbed up the overhang that the malum’s campfire was underneath. Then he took out both his daggers and threw them, hitting one malum each. Next he brought out a bow and knocked three arrows, as the malums looked behind them at Blaise he shot his arrows killing three more. Finally he jumped down with his sword to easily finish of the last two. Blaise dusted his shoulders off. “We need to keep going.” We traveled across the rocky landscape through the mountains. As we travelled down, we didn’t see any other malums, which was quite strange. But all the hiking paid off when I saw the gate. It was red and taller than a giraffe riding a giraffe riding an elephant. It kind of resembles the Arce De Triomphe except more built for war. “What are you waiting for?” Blaise asked. “And what is your name?” “My name is Jack Lancaster.” I told them and strode towards the gate.

I expected it to be warlike inside of the walled territory. Damn was I wrong or what. It was sunny and grassy, there was trees everywhere. The only warlike thing there was the mountain castle. “Welcome, Jack, to Lake Mácu .” Blaisedrin said. “Oh and by the way the man on the dragon, his name is Lord Wang Alpin. He is also a general.” Then a man on a horse road towards me. He was a blonde man with a sword that looked like it could slice a bar of iron in half. “Hello there. Who are you and why do you stare at the land like you are living under a rock?” He said, chuckling at his own joke. “My name is Jack Lancaster, and for the last few years I have been living in the caves of those mountains.” I said, pointing to the mountains where I met Blaise. “Well Jack, welcome to the kingdom of Mácu.” He said. “Oh, and if you decide to stay, you will need a job.” “I want to be someone who goes on missions to help the army.” “A missionary? The hardest job?” He asked. “Sure.” I said. “Ok, you can relax until 10:00 P.M, then go to that Obelisk where you will get your job.” After that I walked off and explored the rest of the territory. I went towards the mountain castle and saw about 20 people guarding the castle. Then I walked through the gate expecting to see hoards of treasure, but, again I was wrong. What I saw was poverty and healers treating the many wounded. I felt perfectly in place there with my homemade clothes and mud smears. As I walked out I checked the clock tower. 9:28 32 more minutes to kill. I wandered around more and saw someone who looked like an older version of me. I guess he saw me because he started walking toward me. “JACK?!” He yelled. “IS THAT YOU?” “Ummm, yeah…” I said “Who are you?” “Jack, it’s me. Your brother.” He said. “But, you should be dead, I remember how dad hit you. The last time it should have been fatal…” “No.” He said. “After you left, Blaisedrin and some others came to our house and saved me.” “What happened to dad?” I asked. “Nobody knows.” I checked the clock tower. 9:57. “I have to go.” I said. “See you later.” I ran to the obelisk and when I got there I saw the other few new recruits. There was a dwarf that looked a little angry. And a girl who I instantly fell in love with. I guess she caught me staring and winked at me. She is the one who is writing this story with me. Anyway the dwarf, whose name apparently was Nerit, said he wanted to be a miner. No surprise there. Then the girl went up there and said her name was Kitoria Halllight and that she wanted to be a warrior. So they gave her, her sword and armor and a place to live. Then they called me up. I don’t know why I was so nervous, but I managed to say my name and that I wanted to be a missionary. They didn’t give any equipment except a badge. They said I would get the equipment I need for missions when the time came. They also said since they had a roommate system, I had to live with Kitoria. “You all have the rest of the night to do whatever. Curfew is at 12.” He said. Kitoria and I walked to our new home together and I got to actually look at her. She has long red hair and blue eyes. She is a little shorter than me. Once we got to the house we explored it. There was a kitchen and living room. The living room had green couches and a window. There was also an exit to the river. The upstairs had a bathroom, two bedrooms, and a storage room. “Kitoria,” I said, “Why don’t you get some groceries.” Now that she left I will tell you what happened before this story. Now , I was 9 years old when my sister died of cancer. After that my dad went crazy. He started hitting my brother and me. One time he hit my brother so hard he went unconscious. That was the last straw for me. I ran out looking for a place to live. Then I came to The Macian Mountains and I settled down in a cave. That’s when I started this book. After a few more minutes, Kitoria came back with the groceries. After we put the groceries away we went to bed. I had a dream that I was back at my house with my dad. He was hitting my brother. I felt a familiar feeling. Rage. I lunged at my father, trying to get that whip out of his hands. Then he turned to me, his eyes were fiery. “The lord Chindrill will rise again.” He said. “All I need is a blood sacrifice.” I woke up after that, scared half to death. I didn’t know who this Chindrill person was, but I didn’t really want to know.
