Prologue
"Thank you!" The girl said enthusiastically to the driver, before hopping off from the bus.
As the bus sped off into the distance, the girl turned and began her first steps of her adventure that awaited her ahead. Her cheeks were pink with overflowing excitement, unable to refrain from jumping on the spot. She squealed and finally let out her emotions, having difficulty in believing that she was finally here.
Her name was Julie. A Petit girl with a frail figure stands amidst the crowds, checking her phone to make sure she was in the right place. Just as she was beginning to get shoved around by her busy surroundings of elven and orc folk, she decides to cross the street.
For the special day, Julie figured she should dress up a little. She wore a black long sleeved turtleneck top that clung to her skin tight, with black shorts and combat boots. She had an olive jacket on for the cold weather today, and a pocket spell book sitting comfortably in her belt pouch. Then in her bag were her potion bottles and other magical items which she had prepared earlier last night.
Julie looked at the building ahead, a large billboard that displayed its name "Eden" with other advertisements. Although, rather than building it was like a sky scraper in comparison to her. Julie squinted her eyes at it with her hand over her eyes, gazing up the tall structure. She awed at its height and at the authentic atmosphere it was radiating.
Around the building was a plaza where many workers were on their break. Nearby was a park and a fountain for the public to freely use, along with a tall statue of the legendary hero of Erenea atop the fountain. There were tourists surrounding it and taking photos alongside it, recognising their country's pride.
Julie then headed inside the building, and immediately noticed upon arrival that it was packed with Adventurers. It was fairly easy to tell that they were indeed Adventurers due to the various and diverse armours and equipment. Like everywhere else, there were those who liked to bathe in attention by wearing high-end armor. Veterans would roll their eyes and pity the newbies.
Within the lobby was a circular counter where there were receptionists tending to a small queue. Julie quickly lined up in case it were to grew. As she waited, she searched in her bag for her personal documents, identifications and credentials. Just to have it ready on the go if ever needed.
When it was her turn, Julie spoke up quickly, not wasting any time.
"I'm here to apply to become an Adventurer?" She questioned softly. The lady nods.
"Okay, do you have any appointments booked with any of our guides?" She asks her. Julie shook her head.
"Ah, it was just sudden so I haven't..." She replied. The woman smiled anyway, showing her sharp fangs.
Julie was fascinated with the fangs, deciphering whether this woman was a vampire or not based on her red eyes. For a moment she was almost entranced and completely in thought, until the woman spoke up and snapped her back to reality.
"That's totally fine." The woman nods and relaxed her shoulders, turning to her computer, "Although all our guides are booked for the moment, it is possible to make an appointment. Would you like me to book you one for today?" She turned to Julie.
Julie nodded eagerly. "Yes please."
The women then begins to search for something in her drawers, the slid it towards Julie with a pen.
"Okay, just sign this with your info and return it to me when you're done, alright?"
Julia nodded again, standing aside so that the next person in queue could talk to the lady. She quickly filled out the document.
Juliana Rosiette. Age, 12. Occupation, none. Class, Healer. Magic type, Healing.
Julie began filling in other details as fast as she could, such as the reason for becoming an Adventurer and the current skill sets she had. As soon as all was finished, she signed with her signature at the bottom.
Julie returned it back to the woman who simply smiled at her. Disappointed, Julie thought there was going to be something more. Something extravagant or grandiose. She expected that from a top-notch Adventurer agency like this, she would witness the use of some fancy magic.
Then, as if the deities proving her wrong, she felt a tingling on the top of her hand. She took a peek and saw words forming on it. Then a room number. Julie was almost happy to witness such magic, until she groaned when she saw she had three hours of waiting.
She sighed and began heading towards the waiting area, then gasped at the sight of the amount of people. There were people of all races, ranks and classes. Seeing the interestingly grouped together was...well, interesting. And in their differences, the one thing they had in common was that they were all patiently in the wait for their appointment.
Julie frowned, looking up at the monitor on the wall to see her number had yet to be called.
"Yeah, no thanks..." She spun around on her heel.
Julie took a step outside, and then immediately felt a "ping!" from her phone as it vibrated from her pocket. She saw that an text message appeared on her phone under the name of the checkpoint's name.
She clicked on the message for it to expand and read that they verified her identity and was still pending for approval. She let out a sigh of relief. According to the message Julie should have received a time to be called back. Underneath, at the end of the message was a link to an app. Julie clicked on it.
The app was called Advenue. It was the number one trending social media for adventurers, where it was possible for people to follow celebrity Adventurers, view trending news and so on.
As she waited for any news from her appointment, Julie took a seat at a nearby park bench while installing the app and setting up her account. There was a moment of peaceful silence, then a loud squeal that made Julie drop her phone.
"MONSTER!!! RUN!!!"
Julie turned to the source of whatever caused the rumbling of the ground and the distant screaming. Around the corner turns a large bull.
The abnormally large, armoured bull crashes on that corner and slides. It angrily huffed a puff of smoke and stomped its hoof down, charging towards the crowd of people again. Everyone ran for their dear lives, running across the street road as the bull crashes on lamp posts and whatnot.
Julie immediately identified it as a B class monster, a Savara Bull, or an armoured bull Earth type. Strangely enough, the biome the city was in was not a desert biome. It must have ventured from a faraway place.
In front of the bull was a creature of sort, one which Julie had never really seen before, although it was oddly familiar. The owl, eagle bird mix was crying for help.
"HELP MEEEEEE!!!"
Julie had absolutely no idea on what to do, frozen and petrified on the spot. She was merely just a Healer really, a novice Magician at best that had only learned magic two, three weeks ago and was technically only but a new adventurer.
"Oh God oh God oh God, what do I do!?" Julie screamed in panic, turning left and right, looking around desperately. The bird hybrid begins to fly towards her at a faster speed, and in turn the bull does too.
"DO SOMETHING!!!" It yelled directly at her. Julie squealed in panic.
She looked back at the bull, analysing it first.
"Earth type bull, okay...? Floral magic won't do, certainly not flame or water, thunder is out of my league..." Julie muttered quickly under her breath, then looked at its hooves. "To stop it, I could make it lose footing. But how...?"
Her eyes widened as the bull approached quickly. Time was wasting away with her worrying. She saw she had no other choice. A risky decision had to be made. Either one of the most popular landmarks become wrecked by this bull, resulting in a three weeks to a month worth of reconstruction. Or Julie would have to make a sacrifice.
Julie hissed at herself as it was too soon to be involved in trouble like this. She crouched down to the ground, pushing the bird behind her as she uttered a spell.
"Ilaicalgi covni!"
The ground turned ice in a matter of seconds, and the bull slipped and fell immediately. Julie smirked in victory. No matter the type other than its own, the creature would lose footing against a slippery surface, especially a hoofed creature.
Thunder magic, the element in which earth types were weak against, seemed to too complicated to perform in the given time, and so ice became Julie's next best option.
The inertia caused the bull to slide towards Julie and the bird with speed. The bird grabbed her by the bag strap and flung her to the side hastily just in time before it could have crashed into them.
The bull crashed at the park fountain instead, which caused a concerning massive leak. Not only that, the statue of their legendary hero had been damaged. Julie began sweating profusely in worry at the newfound problem, knowing fully well that there would be significant consequences to acting recklessly and not leaving it to official adventurers.
"That spell language..." The bird landed in front of Julie, looking up at her, "Could you possibly...?"
Julie opened her mouth, ready to spout lies and excuses when suddenly pain struck her. She grimaced and held on the back of her neck, experiencing the whiplash caused from the bird's throwing and flinging. Her head felt like it was about to split. She opened her eyes, and saw something that she couldn't believe was in front of her.
"That book...!" Julie's pain instantly washes away when she glanced up, then suddenly she found the bull rushing back again towards them in full throttle. The bird was unaware, his attention focused on her, still awaiting her answer.
"Watch-!"
"Hi-YAH!"
Interrupted, Julie was preparing for once again another magic spell, that could have resulted in more destruction, when a boy jumped and landed a devastating drop kick at the bull. The bull collapses on the ground, rendered immobile from the attack. Julie's jaws, and even the bird's, drop at the sight of the impossibly monstrous power.
"There's no way that a kid was able to take down a bull with sheer strength!" The bird squawked. Julie was speechless.
The boy landed softly on the ground, next to the bull that laid unconscious. Julie would have been completely puzzled on where the boy could have possibly attained such strength, if she hadn't caught it. In half a second, Julie caught a glimpse of what looked like a certain, identifiable tail. Suddenly it made sense.
His illuminating azure eyes seemed to stare down at them, almost a glare that asserted his authority. At first glance there was nothing peculiar about the boy. His crude clothing of a simple jacket, shirt, shorts and slippers were no culprit to his unfathomable power. There was no sign of muscle nor a trace of magic to be seen anywhere near the boy.
But the blue eyes, Julie realised, were not azure anymore. The more she stared, the more it made sense to her. The difference was subtle, but now it was clear.
Julie had no doubt.
"IT'S A----"
"SHHHHH!!!" The mysterious boy ran over to the bird and grabbed his beak to shut it. Julie's eyes widened at how close he was, inching away.
"But...there's just no way....they're not real..." She laughed nervously. "H-How can you all...? Am I seeing things..?"
"Y-You! You still haven't told me!" The bird pointed a wing at her. "Your spell language...!! How can you still...!?"
"Wait, isn't that...!?" The boy suddenly saw the book under the bird's other wing. "That book...!"
Everyone glanced at each other, both in question and confusion.
All of a sudden, they found themselves in quite an unexpected situation.
