Chapter 1

“Ash,” I moaned into his neck. He flicked his tongue against my hammering pulse. Ash growled as he nipped and sucked on it. His hands ran up the length of my body.

“God, Mara you have no idea all the things I’ve wanted to do to you since I laid my eyes on you.” His voice came out husky as I brought my mouth up to his.

“You want to show me?” I said with a cocky grin and flashed my best lustful eyes. His crystal blue eyes now flashed red as his hunger set in. The beast within him was approaching the surface.

“You bet I do baby,” he said as he smashed his lips into mine. The kiss was sloppy, which means he wasn’t worried about me changing my mind. He rocked his hips into mine making me gasp at the contact. His hands slid their way into my hair and pulled my head back exposing my throat. This is it. This is what I’ve been working towards all night I thought. Now his eyes were red as he licked my neck painfully slow before he sunk those sharp fangs into me. I let an animalistic growl that I had hoped would pass for pleasurable. Sure, vampire bites can be used for pleasure, that’s why most human victims of vampires don’t stop them. I felt the long draw of blood leaving my body as he drank from me like a Capri-sun. Ash’s grip became needier as he pushed harder into the crook of my neck. Playing with vampires could be a risky business if they’re near your throat unless you’re me of course.

As a modern day vamp slayer, our methods have evolved to be more...physical you could say. We adopted the same method the bloodsuckers use. Seduction. Through it, we lure them into their deaths as they do to innocent humans. The difference is that there’s usually a lot less bloodshed and deaths involved unless you’re a vampire. Then death is always involved. Underneath the waistband of my black sequined mini skirt, lay my wooden dagger sheathed in its holster.

Oh, how I had a treat for this one. One of Ash’s hands trailed down to my thigh, spreading my legs and hiking my skirt up in the process. That was my cue to grab my dagger. Swiftly I maneuvered it behind his back and shoved it through his heart. There was an immediate release of his fangs from my neck as he looked down at me in shock. Betrayal laced his lavish features. They all looked like runway models. But that wouldn’t stop me from eradicating them. Within seconds his body fell to dust and disappeared. Wincing, I reached up to touch my still sore neck. The blood still flowed freely from the wound onto the neckline of my top.

That was too close for this creature. As much as I hate them touching me or even getting near me, it was the easiest approach to killing them. I sat up and looked around the cheap motel room he had brought me to. The whole thing screamed whorehouse to me personally, but they’re not very picky about where they do their business nowadays. I palmed my lucky dagger and sheathed it as I made my way back to the den. Father would want to know how the mission went tonight. And as much as I hated to admit it, his opinion mattered to me. More than anything.

Our home base resided in the basement of my father’s law firm. Hard to believe that he led the company seeing as he has no fit education to even be the C.O. He had been leading this pack of hunters since before I was born. I trained from a very young age to enlist in his group. That was my purpose, he had told me. I made my way down the flights of steps, as I got close to his room I heard yelling. I slowly inched towards the door frame.

“And what if it doesn’t work?” A female voice hissed. My father stayed silent for a moment.

“It will.”

“How can you be so sure about it? We don’t even know if it passed on to her.” A heavy crash sounded, I could hear wood splintering. The female made a wheezing noise that sounded like she was gasping for air.

“Don’t ever question me, Nadia.” His words came out sharp and dripping with dominance. I knew the female had no chance of going up against my father. I decided I was done eavesdropping, so I gave a firm knock on the door. Moments later it opened to reveal my father who seemed heavily pissed off. Giving the female a once over I noticed scars laced up and down her arms as well as one that went right across her face. She sneered at me and returned the once over in disgust.

“You think looking like a two dollar whore will actually help in exterminating these things?” she spat at me.

“As a matter of fact yes. Or at least it did tonight and the last three nights in a row,” I replied with a forced smile, showing off my pearly whites.

“Leave us, Nadia.” My father interrupted before she could bark a comeback at me. Nadia gave a curt nod to father and gave me a last look of disgust and exited the room. Leaving me alone with my father. Hurray.

“So I take it the vermin you were assigned to be dealt with is dead?” he asked as he filed through papers at his desk.

“Yes, sir. The vampire known as Asher Quintona is dead.” I hoped for some type of praise for my efforts tonight.

“It took you two nights too long Mara. You’re one of our best warriors and the one the youngest look to for guidance. You should’ve been able to take this one out instantly.” He didn’t even have to look up from his papers.

“Yes, sir. I’ll try harder from here on out. I know my duty is to our people.”

“You may see yourself out. You’ll receive another assignment tomorrow night, until then.” he gestured to the door. That was my cue to leave. And I did so happily.
