Summary

The alien creature was a herbivore, the same as every other animal on this planet he had observed thus far. Year 3444: A fledgling colony funded by Lanston-Co, a multi trillion pound corporation from the United Interstellar Kingdom has set out to colonise the frontier world of PN-40A7823F - Arcadia. The colony headed by an idealistic young man - Adam, the youngest of the Lanston family will seek to settle into a new harmonious existence. Life on Arcadia is bountiful with everything thriving in a complex web of symbolism, the earth readily gives up its fruits and seeds for man to feast alongside the natural beast of the world. As man drives to bend Arcadia to its will as it has done countless times before on thousands of worlds, they will discover the hubris of their actions.

Its awareness not likely to hit the markers set for classic sentience, but it did think in its own way. Thoughts pulsing through uncounted entwining strands of neural activity stretched out to encompass everything within its domain. Like a flower a thought blooms, elegant yet supremely complex it focuses, guiding and balancing. Its will exerting energy like a shoreside tide, its attention waning and waxing. In a trice, it had experienced innumerable instances of these thoughts, rarely directly connected, yet all following the same purpose. Its vast omnipresent senses feeding a constant stream of impressions, electromagnetic representations of experiences blending into a cacophony of intertwining events. With little concept of time, like a weaver threading moments into an indefinitely growing tapestry, stretching back into infinity. It is not good, nor is it evil. To apply concepts of morality to it would be an exercise in futility. It simply is.

Its thoughts echo on, reverberating through it’s...

BURNING...

An acrid stench, full of wrongness and sharp angles.

Something is wrong. Something is here.

Heika van Walderveen: I had to get used to the style. It’s a lot of switching and getting back into the story of the characters. Also the different timelines were a bit confusing in the beginning. But once you’re used to it, it’s really quite original. The plot is good, but it’s only book 1 (out of 3), but so far so good...
