Prologue
Alex’s parents were talking about it.
The news was talking about it.
And when Alex walked through the school, all eyes on her, the students were talking about it.
Everyone was talking about.
Talking about Mariah.
The girl with rich parents and happy life. The girl who was loved by all and had everything she could ever want.
But then she disappeared.
Mariah was gone and everyone looked to Alex for the reason why. Alex was her best friend and they were practical sisters.
Alex should have known where Mariah was, but she didn’t.
No one did.
All that was left was a cryptic note that read,
Dear loved ones,
I had to leave and I won’t be back.
Love, Mariah
Alex didn’t know what it meant and no amount of police yelling and Mariah mom crying would help her know it meant.
The letter clear as day said she left and wouldn’t be back but not a why. It didn’t say where she was going and why.
There was no why.
No reason.
It caught everyone off guard and as Alex walked through the halls, people whispered and looked at her.
She was the best friend.
She had to know why.
But she didn’t.
Or did she know everything at the same time of knowing nothing.
Did Alex know where to find Mariah?
