Prologue

August was always the hottest month of the summer for Lana. The sun seemed to shine brighter than any other month. She was used to the inescapable heat that seemed to surround everyone and everything in Los Angeles during the summer.

While scrolling through Instagram a post specifically caught her eye. Not because the person on there was completely hot, but because it was her longtime crush... and her very own bully. He had recently been sent away to military school because lord knows he was a delinquent. His behavior got so out of hand that his parents decided to reform him.

How Lana ended up liking him was beyond her realm of knowledge. If you asked her She couldn't tell you why. Maybe it was because she like the dominant side of him. Maybe she liked that someone, anyone, noticed her. Maybe it was because deep down she knew that he didn't bully her because he had his own issues.

Well...He had issues. But not the ones that make you bully someone. So what was his problem? Why did he take it out on her? she was invisible, so why'd he have to go and ruin it?

She couldn't answer it, and quite frankly neither could he.

The crazy part of the situation was that every time he looked at her when he wasn't bullying her, she could see regret in his eyes. Why did he feel bad for what he had done? It felt like Lana would never find out. And maybe she never would.

Let's not forget her abusive boyfriend. Jackson and Lana looked like the perfect couple to the outside world. But what nobody Knew was the mental and physical abuse he puts her through. Yes, she hides it pretty well, but when your life is on the line, and depends on secrecy, wouldn't you?

Summer was almost over, and senior year was about to start. Nothing new was bound to happen. Or maybe it was, and fate just had a funny way of showing it.
