Just An Old Time Story
This is an old story from back in the 1930's when an ice cream sundae cost fifteen cents. A ten year old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table by himself. A waitress soon approached him and set a glass of water down in front of him.
"How much is an ice cream sundae?" The little boy asked.
"Fifty cents," the waitress replied.
The boy then pulled out some pocket change and studied it closely for a moment "Well then how much is a plain dish of ice cream?" He inquired.
By this time other paying customers were waiting on a table and the waitress was seemingly growing impatient.
"Thirty-five cents," she brusquely replied.
The little boy then counted his coins again. "I'll have the plain ice cream" he said.
The waitress came back with the dish of ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished his ice cream, paid the cashier and left. When the waitress came back to clear off the table she began to tear up. As she wiped down the table, there were two nickels and five pennies sitting neatly next to the empty dish. You see, he couldn't have a sundae because he had to have enough left over to leave her a tip.
"A little bit of kindness goes a long way"
