Prologue - The Past

12 years ago, a family was making their way to catch their flight to London. The father was given a chance to work in London at one of the few outlets and hearing that he must stay there till he completes his job, he decided to bring along his family.

“Alright ladies, we better hurry up if we want to have enough time to do some shopping at the airport.” Said the father as he hurried his family.

The mother tried to keep up with her husband while their daughter kept on looking back to see if her friend has arrived. Noticing this, the mother walks towards her husband and whispered to him about their daughter.

“Darling, I understand that we need to hurry but…our daughter…you see, she made a promise to her friend to meet up here before we fly off to London, and the boy said that he has something to give her.” said the mother to her husband.

The father looks back at his daughter and noticed the look on her face. Knowing how much this boy meant to her, the father thought for a moment before looking back at his wife and gave her a smile.

“Why don’t you wait here for him to arrive? While your mother and I get the tickets, then we will wait for you at the gate area there. Once you are done, you can just meet us there and just make sure he arrives before the final call.” Said the father to his daughter before taking her luggage from her hands and pulling it to the check in area along with his.

Happy to hear her father’s permission, she quickly checks in her luggage with them before walking back to the spot to wait for her friend to arrive. With a smile on her face, she kept a look out for any signs of him.

As the time passes, it was nearly time for them to enter the gate and board their flight before the final announcement is being made. Wishing that the boy could arrive by now, the daughter grew worried and wonder what was taking the boy so long.

“Do you think the boy will make it in time? I hope he does or else…I can’t bear to see our daughter sad and regretting for the rest of her life.” Said the mother worried about her daughter’s feelings.

The father too thought the same and wishes that this boy would arrive before the final call. Yet knowing that they will be late for their flight, the father was about to shout out for his daughter when he saw a familiar figure running amongst the crowd.

“He is finally here.” said the father.

“Who? who is finally here, dear?” asked the mother as she look at where her husband is looking at.

The father points towards the crowd, seeing the boy running as fast as he could towards their daughter. Glad to see him, they both smile widely as they hear the boy shouting for their daughter’s name.

Hearing her name being called, she turns around and saw the boy running towards her before she too ran to him and jumps to give him a hug.

“I am so glad that you could make it. I was about to lose hope of you and thought that you might not come.” Said the daughter as she hugs him even tighter.

“I am so sorry I am late; I was caught up at a jam and had to collect some items.” said the boy as he apologies to her as well.

They pulled away from the hug and smile wide to each other. They felt glad and happy to see each other before she had to go away.

“Listen, I know that we won’t be seeing each other for some time as you and your parents are moving to London for the next 10 years, so I made something for you. Its nothing much but at least it will remind you of me, when you miss me or in need of some comfort or even feel down.” Said the boy as he took out something from his pocket.

It was a small gift, wrapped in her favourite ribbon and wrapping paper. Feeling touched by his action, she could not help but teared and gave him a smile.

“You shouldn’t have…thank you.” said the daughter as she took the gift from his hands.

“I hope that it can help you in anyway it can and let you remember me always. No matter where you are, how far we are apart, we will always be closer than ever.” said the boy as he wipes her tears away.

Feeling the sadness filling her, she hugs him again and began to cry in his arms. Not wanting to leave him, she cries even more and hugs him tighter. Noticing this, the boy wraps his arms around her small body and tries to calm her down.

“Please don’t cry, it won’t be that long, it is only 10 years, we still have a way to stay in contact with each other and besides, I will always be here, waiting for you to come back to me. Also never think that you are alone.” said the boy as he tries to calm her down.

Hearing him said all that, she was glad to have him as her close friend and someone special in her heart. She pulls away from him and mumble a thank you to him as she felt him wiping her tears again.

Soon the both heard the final call being made and realized that it was time for her and her parent to get going.

“It is time, you better get heading, your parents are waiting for you and you won’t want to be late for the flight. Anyway, I saw how happy they look when they saw us together, it makes me wonder what their reaction be like if you and I were to be more…” the boy stops halfway and shook his head before mumble nothing to her.

Confused as to what he was about to say, she shrugs her shoulders and was about say something else but only to be stop by him.

“Go on now, or else you will be late for your flight and I don’t want to be the reason to it.” said the boy as he pushes her away.

“I will miss you. always.” Said the daughter as she slowly walks towards her parents with him by her side.

“I will miss you too. Take care and remember I will be waiting for you here to come back and you are never alone.” Said the boy before he stops in his tracks and wave a goodbye to her.

Not wanting to look away, they smile widely to each other and kept on waving their hands till she reached to her parents. Soon, they made enter gate and head to the plane flight to London.

The boy sighs out loud once they out of his sight and took out another small box from his pocket.

“No matter where we are, how far apart we become, we will always be closer than ever and this time, I will make sure of it.” said the boy and he held the box in his hands tightly.

Just like that, they began their new lives and chapters at different parts of the world yet remember every moment they had together. They met new friends, create new bonds with them and as time passes, they grew up to be mature people.

Despite growing up, they never forget about each other and would find time to think about what the other is doing while holding on to the item that would remind them of each other.

“I wonder what she is doing?” mumble the boy as read a book.

“I wonder if he is still waiting for me. How I wish he was here.” said the girl sadly.

Missing the times, they spent together, the moments they shared and the tears they cried, they became lost in their thoughts. It has been nearly 10 years since they last saw each other, the time for her and her parents to return draws closer and this time, things would be different than before.

“Are you ready?” asked the father as enters his daughter’s room.

“Almost, I still have some item need to be pack and besides, we still have like a week to pack before we head back home.” Replied the daughter as her father sat on her bed.

The father nods his head and adjusted his specs before looking at her and gave a smile.

“The last time when we left, you were only a teenager and now, you are all grown up and ready to start off your own bakery. How times fly fast.” Said the father as he sighs.

The daughter sat down beside him and place her hand on his lap before looking at him. She assured him that she will always be his daughter and that she will always need him in her live.

Touched to hear it, her father mouthed a thank you to her before giving her a hug. He then pulls away and stood up before stepping out of her room.

“You better get packing, we still have lots to pack outside and furthermore, your mother won’t like it when we delay any further or does things late.” Said the father as he walks out of her room.

“Roger that.” said the daughter as she got back to packing.

While putting her item into one box, she notices a familiar gift on her make-up table. Walking toward and took it off the table before opening it up to look at the gift itself.

“Sigh…I am coming back soon, hope you are still there, waiting for me. Please be there.” Said the daughter as she looks at it.
