Prologue
“Tears are words a heart can’t say.”
---
I was working on a painting when the clouds start to darken as they cover the sky, it was about to rain. I panicked as I rushed to find my phone, by then it started to pour. I hastily picked it up and dialed a number, it rang a few times before the person finally picked up.
“Jimin?” She sobbed over the phone
“I’m here, Hae-Rin. It’s okay.” I said, trying to soothe the sobbing girl.
“Sing for me, please?” She asked quietly, still crying but not as hard.
“Of course. Anything for you.” I said, and she sniffled a little signaling she stopped crying.
I don’t mind your odd behavior, it’s the very thing I love.
If you were an ice cream flavor, you would be my favorite one.
My imagination sees you, like a painting by Van Gogh.
Starry nights and bright sunflowers, follow you where you may go.
By the fourth line, I could see the sky clearing back up and I heard soft snores coming from the other side of the phone. I assumed she had calmed down and fallen asleep, I smiled and wished her goodnight. I then hung up the phone and sighed, I couldn’t help but wonder what could possibly make such a sweet and caring girl like Hae-Rin cry so much. I mean this has been happening for weeks now. I just don’t understand, since she never tells me anything.
She always comes to school with bruises and she gets startled by the slightest things. Whenever I ask about it she always brushes it off with an excuse about how she’s just really clumsy. Whenever I ask to go over to her house she won’t let me, and she comes to mine instead. The only thing she confided in me about, was the fact that her emotions control the weather. I didn’t believe her at first, but I noticed how when she was feeling down the sky would cloud and darken. When she was happy and laughing, the sky would be bright and sunny.
I have only ever seen her angry once, and that was when a kid was making fun of the way my hair looked, it was pink and fluffy so he said I looked gay. I was on the verge of tears, and she was livid. It was not a pretty sight to see, the clouds poured down rain and there was so much thunder and lighting. She smacked him and made him apologize to me, after he did she felt better and we got ice cream together to cheer me up. We are always there for each other and that’s what makes us so close.
We share a bond most friends or even best friends don’t have, which leads us to being with each other for the rest of our days.
