Part 1

In a moment either you win or lose everything you know. Reality, the world, your family, friends or people you love and care about without any particular category. Even...your life. What is a life without meaning or a purpose, even...without a future?

My body feels numb, my mind at a disarray as I feel more of my memories slip into an abyss; accompanied by a sharp headache that intensified with a pale white light that shone above me as I tried to open my eyes. When the ringing in my ears subsided I could tell someone was talking beside me; a female voice; but I couldn't see her features with my blurry vision. My eyelids became heavy with tiredness, panic filled the female voice as my eyes closed again and my consciousness began to slip away into darkness.

When I woke, I was hyperventilating, sweat covered my body and everything around me started to feel too cramped and tight.

"Where am I? What happened to me?" The panic was overwhelming; my surroundings where unfamiliar white walls with monitors beside me and a tangle of cables on me. While beginning to pull on them, two women wearing the same tile green uniform came rushing and pulled my arms away from the equipment.

The one to my right grabbed my face between her small hands to grasp my attention. Her eyes were the color of gold with small hints of red that contrasted well with her freckled cheeks and ginger hair color. "Sir, you are alright. You are at a hospital right now and these medical equipments are helping us nurses and the rest of the medical team know how to treat your injuries."

Her voice is familiar to me, her touch is very soothing and filled with love and warmth but, also strength and determination. "How did I get here? What happened?"

"I found you unconscious and... we where hoping you could tell us what happened."

"I can't remember anything."

"What do you mean by that? What can't you remember?"

"Nothing at all."

After many questions and physical examinations, I was diagnosed with a rare type of amnesia. Apparently that's what the doctors believe since they don't know exactly what traumatic event could cause memory loss of...well everything except my first name that surfaced my memory a few days later in my recovery process.

When being discharged, social services introduced me to a family that was claiming to be my relatives from my father's side, but there was no way of confirming that, nor did I have many other options.

Edmund and Ottilie Ragnaldr are a family of four that lives in a quiet rural area of Grimerun, Courtdale. The next house could be seen a phew miles away from the balcony of the second floor of the mansion. It was a big seven room house with five bathrooms, a spacious kitchen and a living room two rooms big. Everything of the house had a vintage feel combined with modernity.

The entire family worked at their own BioTec company. The oldest son was around fifteen years old, like me, and their younger daughter was twelve. Everyone was nice, but I could tell they where tiptoeing around me; hiding something. I never paid much attention and I should have. It would have made more sense to what was to come...

10 YEARS LATER...

It is said that dreams hold truth to the unknown. Maybe that was why I kept having strange dreams of a wolf running through the woods, making me feel like I'm not human. Though, every superstition I would ignore, thinking it unnecessary to success in life. Practical and straight to the point was much faster. Ignorance to these things was my downfall from reality from the start, it just had to catch up to me. And it did...

"President Jedrek, since you didn't call to cancel your appointments, I pushed them for two hours later."

"Thank you, Julianna."

"Also there is a young woman that won't leave until she speaks with you."

"You know what to do."

"She claims to be the nurse that helped you 10 years ago."

I stop in front of my office door before entering and turn to my petite assistant. "Tell her to get an appointment or leave empty handed."

It was almost midnight by the time I had finished with everything programmed for the day. Feeling my head like exploding, my bones acking and my vision blurring before forgetting how I had gone home or what had I done as per usual in the last couple of months.

"Those symptoms only get worse."

A young woman with ginger red hair was standing by the door, startling me. "Who let you in?"

"I did, since you weren't so nice this morning. And before you call security listen to what I have to say."

"You won't leave until you speak anyway. So speak."

"Right, straight to the point it is. You are a werewolf. Last of your kind in fact."

"Great, a crazy woman." I reach for the phone feeling exasperated.

"No, listen. That feeling that you were having before, it's your wolf side breaking the curse that was casted by your mother, a witch, with her own life so you would forget everything and suppress your wolf side. She did it to keep you safe."

Not wanting to hear her superstitions anymore I call security and saw as they escorted her out without giving much atention to what she was warning me about as she was being dragged away.

The first light of day was starting to shine on my face as I woke. When I came to realization to my surroundings, they were not the familiar dark and spacious room, but those of the park that was near the border of the West Forest. Then I saw her on the swing, the nurse from those years ago and from yesterday that hasn't aged a year.

"You cause more trouble than I thought." She stated while handing me a set of clothes from who knows where.

I stood and accepted the clothes she had offered. "What happened?"

"Simple. You transformed with the full moon last night. Ran to the woods and chased away your stalkers trying to kill you. Killed two of the three and came back here."

"What? I killed two people?"

"Two werewolves that were after you. Like I said last night, you are the last of your kind. The last werewolf of The Wind Element Pack. Just like the name implies, your type of wolf can control the wind, just like I can control fire. That rarity surged because our mothers are witches and our fathers werewolves."

"All of it sounds insane."

"Listen. Come with me to my pack. You'll be safe there."

"No, I made my life here. I'm the president of the biggest BioTech company in the city. I can't just go with a strange, crazy woman to who knows where and follow your superstition."

"Fine. When that third wolf comes for you, and he will come, call me."

"That won't happen." I started walking towards the direction of my apartment, leaving her craziness along with her at the park.

"Look up "Penelopy Deeshan" in your contacts. You'll need me, Ragnaldr." She shouted at me, but I never looked back.

After my encounter with Penelopy I got changed and went to the office. Though I didn't get much work done and decided to take the rest of the evening off.

Once I arrived home, there was a man standing on the other side of the leaving room. Staring straight at me with golden eyes when I was inside; he had an eerie, raspy voice. "For someone that was facing death and killed two men, you don't seem that shaken. Must be your filthy bloodline."

"Is that why you and your friends were after me last night? For my bloodline? Then let me disappoint you. I got nothing to do with it nor I want to be involved." I turned and acted like closing the door and setting down my suitcase and coat to rapidly try and call for help, but the man appeared beside me all of a sudden and threw my phone away.

"Do you take me for a fool? I was there when we rouges attacked your village to slaughter you all. We didn't know you had survived until recently. Guess you lost your touch in hiding your tracks. Got comfy in this lifestyle, Jedrek?"

While he was distracted taunting me; a looming shadow came up behind him and in an instant ripped the man's heart. His body falling with a loud thud and revealing a familiar red-haired girl. "I told you to call me."

"Why bother if you were already passing by?"

"Funny. This time I'm not asking. Pack a phew things now. We are leaving, otherwise your presence in the city will expose us and get killed in the process."

"I can't just leave."

"Yes, you can. Your uncle already knows the current situation."

"You called him." She nodded in confirmation and waited for my response. "What will you get out of this? In helping me, I mean."

"Insurance that my pack's treaty with yours isn't broken. It was your father's last wish. To keep you safe and alive."

"Right. Everyone seems to know more about me than myself."

"I can help with that. Only if you come with me, of course. I'll also teach you how to control your Wind abilities as much as I can and how to shift at will."

"Alright. I'll go with you. Not that I have much of a choice, anyway."

"How smart. Now let's go before my father hides the gate from view."

We kept walking deeper in the West Woods looking for a person-shaped tree that appeared when the gates to her pack's territory was open. In our search she explained everything. How my pack was massacred by rouges with inferiority complex while everyone slept, thinking that elemental wolves are a filthy bloodline. Penelope's pack hid from view since then and kept themselves alive. The Earth an Water Elemental Packs didn't survive either. No one knows who started the revolt and no one ever investigated and gave priority in surviving.

"We're here. Welcome to Selma, where the Fire Elemental Wolves Pack lives. Though only two Elemental wolves survived."

"Who is the other wolf?"

"The alfa, my father. Though, I guess he isn't here yet. So I'll just show you around."

Penelopy introduced me to everyone and showed me around. She also explained the rules and traditions of the pack. Her father, the alfa, eventually catched up to us and immediately explained the situation and relationship with my family. They were best friends at that time so it's only natural to protect his best friend's only son.

Everyday became a routine of training after Penelopy's father broke the spell casted on me. The memories came slowly but surely. The shifting process was the least favorite; breaking every bone was painful and increased whenever my muscles where sore in my tall slim body. My wolf form stood out the most with my dark grey fur and silver eyes. Everything was strange at first but with every passing day it felt like home. Until the day the gates were breached by rouges.

Chaos filled the pack; even so everyone did as they were told and evacuated to the safe zone on the edge of the territory.

The rouges didn't pay attention to any of them since they were busy surrounding only me. Their target.

"Care to join us and our master, Jedrek Ragnaldr?"
