Prologue
It starts from a simple cliche. The heartbreak of the first love, the death of a dear one, maybe even betrayal. There are infinite reasons people harden their hearts. It’s sad to know there are so many numb to the warmth of joy that a friendly smile can bring. Or the airy sensation of floating after a good, hard laugh.
That darkness wraps around your heart like a raw, scratchy, unyielding strand of barbed wire. Digging deeper with every reminder of pain, it turns to a shell. Then, before it’s detected, your heart is nothing but an imposter of its former self.
The worse part of it all, a small percentage of those who’ve numbed themselves simply give up. They don’t see a point in meeting new people. Why would they? Everyone is destined to bring sorrow or befall it because of them. At least, that’s what they tell themselves.
In the minds of those hardened souls, their destiny has already been written. That fate is a life filled with emptiness, resentment, and an eternity of loneliness. What they don’t realize is...
A heart encased in stone is nothing but chaos waiting to be unleashed.
