Chapter 1: Wrong About Champions

So It’s true he thought, It’s really true. Detdros was his name, he was a skilled blacksmith, and looked for strange metals to make tools and weapons out of. He found a black iron that looked unique, and forged a sword out of it.

He knew it would sell well so he went to his workshop and put it on display. He then went out to search for more of this rare mineral. One day while he was mending a sword a strange customer walked into his shop, he was wearing all black. He looked mysterious, but he didn’t think much of it with how many strange customers he gets in these parts of the Zesal Empire.

Detdros watched the customer for a moment while he looked over all the weapons, then shook his head in dismissal about how strange the customer acted and went back to mending the sword he had been currently fixing. The strange man continued to examine the weapons and the tools and picked up one of the iron axes Detdros had just made, examining it closer then walked up to Detdros and hit the bell next to his desk. “What can I do for you today?” Detdros asked. The man set the axe carefully down on the counter in front of Detdros. “How much for this fine axe?” The man replied. Detdros examined the quality and measured it by it’s quantity. “20 quid. It’s a sale day today.” Detdros smiled as the man handed over 20 quid.

The man nodded his head, took the axe and left the blacksmith wondering who this man was. He didn’t seem much older then he was, he was in his mid-20’s, his dad used to own this blacksmith shop and when he retired he handed it down to Detdros. Detdros had always loved blacksmithing. It was a hobby he couldn’t curve and being able to do it everyday for a living was the best thing he could have asked for.

Of course he would never admit it but he’s also always loved archery and would love to be in the army of Zesal. He thought it would have been a great opportunity to sharpen his skills and become a better swordsman, and archer. But alas it was only a dream he couldn’t get to, besides he loved blacksmithing, it paid well and he gets a lot of recurring customers. He meets a lot of soldiers and other people on the frontline. For instance the guy dressed in all black looked like a fighter of sorts. He was lean so most likely a foot soldier if he was in the army.

He knows some of the foot soldiers used axes as their weapons, while others prefer swords or a bow with a quiver or two full of arrows. He was the main supplier for the army since his craft was so good. A lot of the army men, and women since they don’t discriminate in Zesal, if you can learn to fight you can enlist in the army, would tell him he was great at making swords and some challenged him to a battle which he graciously declined. Some army women had seen him practice and were certain he’d be the top swordsman in all of Zesal. His bow skills were quite unique but he had a secret about himself he’d never told a soul about.

That is until he enlists to train someone who’s having a difficult time learning to fight. One of the commanders came to him one day and asked him if he could help him with a huge favor and that if he wasn’t up to the task he’d be given, he could opt out. When he met the kid he was supposed to train who wasn’t much of a kid. He was around 25 years old and had a baby face but it seemed to accompany his muscular form. This kid was disciplined and wasn’t complaining about who he had to work with. Of course Detdros wasn’t a sight for sore eyes. He was lean, muscular and had the face of an actor with full pursed lips and green eyes that seemed to catch you into a sea of forest.

He definitely didn’t think little of this kid, he held himself high with dignity but was humble as well. He never let his pride get the best of him. The commander tells him he’s a fine soldier just not so easily taught how to use a sword. The kids name is, Faelyn Reypetor. Detdros was very keen on keeping this kid under close eye, to make sure he gets the proper training he deserves. Commander Daecan was a respected older man in his late forties. He always found the best soldiers for the job and even asked Detdros why he didn’t take up being in the army seeing his skill level, Detdros just only smiled sadly and replied with, to keep the family business running. Little did they know there was something wicked this way comes.
