PROLOGUE

I felt the wind whip my hair. Sharon and I stood motionless at the top of St. Paul’s Cathedral viewing platform, staring upwards at the two wizards. The dome cracked ominously again.

This was it. This was the end. The bomb was set. We were all about to die…

Felix Freeman, the wizard, my best friend was barely consciouses. He was being held hostage at the very top of St. Paul’s, 15 feet above us, by whom we knew as The Creep—real name Edward, a black magic wizard who was fighting Felix to obtain possession of the one thing he needed, that Felix beat him to… the ring of power.

And now he looked like he was about to get it.

Edward, the Creep was talking to Felix in a soft voice I couldn’t make out, no less than fifteen feet away. At that moment, the wind died down and I could hear him speaking.

“I’m putting this over your neck now, to stop you doing any more magic.” I saw Edward putting some kind of pendant necklace around Felix’s neck. “I don’t want you doing magic and miraculously surviving the fall now do I?” Edward laughed. “You’re the only one who can stop me.”

Then, quick as flash and without any time to react, Edward raised Felix into the air high above him. “Where is the ring Felix?”

Felix hung over the precipice. “I won’t give it to you.”

“We had a deal.”

Sharon suddenly burst past me, and ran towards them. “Felix, don’t be so stupid! Just give him the ring!”

“Sharon!” I cried. “No!”

For Edward it looked like Christmas had come early. “Your friends are here,” he smiled. “How lovely.”

“Just give it to him and live!” Sharon screamed choking back the tears.

“Would you care to tell me where it is?” said Edward expectantly. “I will let him live if you do so.”

Felix floated up and down over the edge of the tower, Edward demonstrating his power over Felix’s life. “It’s on his right hand!” she cried.

Edward reached out and inspected Felix’s right hand, waving his wand over it. Sure enough, the silver ring sparkled into existence. “Thank you very much,” he said plucking it from Felix’s limp finger.

“No…” Felix mumbled as Edward pocketed the ring.

“You’ve got what you came for!” I cried. “Now let him go!”

Edward smiled. “As you wish.”

As he lowered his wand, the spell keeping Felix floating in mid-air stopped. Felix, who was hovering over the side of the tower and now with nothing to support him… fell.

“NOO!” I screamed into the wind as my best friend fell over the ledge, out of sight, plummeting to his death…

Hi Jack Simmonds,

I just finished reading your story “Wizard For Hire” and I loved it so much. Your writing is captivating, and I kept thinking how cool it would look as a comic.

I really loved the scene in the prologue when Felix Freeman is held hostage atop St. Paul's Cathedral by Edward, the Creep, who places a pendant around Felix's neck to prevent him from using magic. The tension in that moment, with the looming threat and the dramatic setting, would translate beautifully into a comic panel, capturing the high-stakes atmosphere and the characters' emotions.

Another standout moment is when Felix and his ally Sharon confront the dark wizard in a magical showdown, showcasing their combined powers and determination. The dynamic action and visual spectacle of this confrontation would make for an engaging and dynamic comic sequence, rich with energy and intensity.

I’m a commissioned artist, and I’d love to draw your story into a comic/manga. No pressure though.I just think your work would look awesome in comic form.
