ONE
I wrap my arms around my knees staring blankly at the floor listening for the buzz. It's one of the couple things I can rely on. To understand what's doing on around me. I jump in fear creating a barrier of flames around me as the screams pierce into my thoughts. Its been almost 730 days since I've been trapped here and I'm still not used to the random screams. A couple minutes past as the screams start to die down and I lower the barrier rocking myself back and forth in the corner.
"There is a world out there the fire will protect you" I repeat her words out loud as they give me safety and comfort. "There are others like me"
I opened my palm and wait for a couple of seconds as the colorful flames suddenly appear dancing in delight. I smile in content as it changes colors. Red ...Blue...Yellow.... Pink

I turn to the door to see a plate of tasteless muck pushed in a rushed manor. Like they couldn't spend another second with their hand through the small opening within the door. I stare at the food for a couple of seconds deciding.
I extinguish the fire as it started to dance around my arm getting up on my shaky legs taking my time to the door. I poked at the raw meat wondering what they had decided to feed me this time. It's not like they would waste valuable meat on a person like me when the world is dying.
There is no color in the world anymore. The sky and clouds are the same shade of grey all year around. Anything that falls from the skies eats away at your skin and bones. Well, I should say their skin.
Our skin isn't weak. Our skin is different it doesn't react to the weather like others. It absorbs, seeping into our skin like it's another layer protecting us.
One day a couple of years ago I witnessed it.
One day a couple of years ago I was getting soaked in it.
One day a couple of years ago I caused it.
I place my hand over my food and I concentrate on heating the food up.
I try not to leave my hand over the thin meat for too long.
This is the first meal I've gotten in a couple days It feels like weeks.
I lift my hand to see most of the meat burnt. I sigh quietly before shoving the plate away from me and moving back to my corner.
"Place Your Clothes In The Slot" the voice echoed throughout the room. Not having the strength to walk back I crawl on my hands and knees to the door. Standing back up I begin to slip off the damaged clothing off of my shoulders, letting it drop to the floor. The clothes always leave worse than when it comes as they are never fire or heat resistant.
I place them in the same slot that they give me food through. I back up a bit as water sprays at me from all directions wetting but not cleaning my body.
I stand there as the high pressured water pounds against my back. I try to stay still endure the pain as it reminds me that I'm a bit human. That I can be considered a human.
I signed as the pain comes to a stop. The water slows down until it comes to a stop. I radiate the heat further my body so to dry my skin and wet floor. I took a step forward reaching to the metal slot grabbing the clothes.
I slip on the oversized pants just for it to fall from my boney hips and for the long-sleeved shirt to cling to my chest in a skimpy way. I blow out the air from my mouth in frustrated as I try to stretch the material of the shirt. It won't take long before the fire burns it up. I pull up the pants tying it the best I could wishing they would consider actually taking our sizes. In the Institution they don't give a damn about anybody much less how the clothes look on us. We're not worth their time
They are keeping me in a place for murders...who've all done it on purpose.People with no remorse
I don't belong here at least by those reasonings.
But I'm a monster. They don't care that I can't control what I'm doing, That I can't help it, I never wanted this curse.
"W3-B9863 Don't attack us or we will shoot," A voice said before I hear a click. The same sound that I haven't heard for 730 days.
I see four guards enter my room
"Your psychotic ass is finally leaving for good Your getting transferred," The first guard tells me before he uses his glove covered hands and grabs my arm pulling me up
I'm transferring? Are they gonna end my life? Did they find a cure for me?
I feel a rough material cover my eyes
"If you burn me I won't hesitate for a second and I will put a bullet right through your skull Let's make this Easier for all of us"
I feel another arm grab onto me. I am forced to walk quickly as it seems the men holding onto me moves fast. Like they wanna get rid of me as soon as possible.
My feet pad the long hallway. I hear different sounds as I pass the metal cells
4 walls, 0 Windows, Here we only have our thoughts and Shadows to keep us company. I haven't talked for a while. When I first got here I would always ask the guards what time it is. But after a while I got tired and I haven't spoken a single word since.
I exit my thoughts when I felt the ground underneath me change into a smooth texture instead of the rough one I've because used to.
"Take the mask off" I hear a deep voice say.
The second the mask is off my eyes are blinded by the bright light. Right in front of me, I see a man in a suit with black gloves on.
I stare at him for a while. Looking at the graying hair on his chin. It's been a while since I've seen another human.
I look down after a minute after I have a feeling the man wants me to look him in the eyes
"I present to you Emera Hyland Sir." The man in front of me says my name.
"The 19 year who can start fires with her mind" The man steps closer to me
"The female who has two different colored eyes"
"I heard so much about you—" He Trails off touching my Neck with his gloved hands
I shiver for all the wrong reasons.
"Lieutenant" The man calls over.
"Yes, Commander?" I hear a voice quickly reply
"Bind her and bring her" I hear the man say.
I opened my eyes wide. Where am I going? Where am I transferring to?
I feel hands wrap around my wrist— I jump in surprise. I feel the heat go to my wrist that has an arm hold it.
"Shit" I hear someone say.
I look down to see the hand on my arm burned through the glove. I freak out at what I caused
"I—I'm-" I trip over my words. The first words I've spoken since being locked in here "I didn't—" I say before I fall to my knees and I start to rock back and forth
"I didn't mean it..."
I'm not a monster
I'm not a monster
I'm not a monster
I'm a monster
I repeat in my head trying to keep myself sane.
"Suck it up and bring her"
It goes quiet for a minute before. I feel a shock from sudden coldness. Before I feel something clamp my wrists together.
I looked up to see a bunch of men in protective clothing.
"Get up and follow" I hear the man say.
I quickly get up when I feel the chains that's wrapped around my wrist pull.
As we to make our way through the building I look at the cells hearing the whimpers and the scratching at the doors. I shake my head trying to clear their vile thoughts from my mind. My feet came to a sudden stop as a wave of pain rushes through me making me scream in agony. I drop to the floor as the pain becomes more and more unbearable. Letting out a ear-piercing scream as the fire arose around me creating a circle. I sat there on the floor holding my arms close to my chest breathing heavily trying to calm myself down; I rock my body
Back and forth I look up to see the fire barely there
"Get her out of there this Instant!" I heard someone yell.
"Yes Commander"
I continue to rock myself back before I feel a great pain. A rush of water hits against my fire wall causing me to drop the barrier. I sat there closing my eyes not wanting to see their eyes.
"Someone get her a protector" I opened my eyes to see someone sliding a heavy metal helmet on my head and a heavy draped robe around my shoulders. I stayed there still shaking from the pain I felt as they clamp new things around my wrists. I must've burnt off the other ones.
I suddenly feel faint, Why do I always cause a ruckus when I'm near people.
"Let's keep going we are wasting time"
I slip away into darkness—
