Prologue

Life isn’t always buttercups and daisies, sometimes it’s a collection of marks scarred onto someone’s heart in a roadmap leading to the most sacred part of their heart.

Books used to be my life, I would hide away in the pages and refuse to leave the sanctuary they provided. My best friends were fictional, yet their souls jumped out of the pages and seemed to touch mine, the map of my heart seemed to be entangled with people I knew didn’t exist. My eyes weren’t closed to the world, I could still see everything around me, yet I hid from what scared me. I could see the beauty surrounding people and I still believed there was good in the world, but more often than not, I would see the pain that surrounds everyone and the rainclouds that seem to infiltrate every corner of people’s lives.

Perhaps the thought of the pain people and love could cause me was always what caused me to hide away in a world primarily focused in my head, perhaps it’s what keeps me from finding you.
