Prologe
The water on Lake Erie was filled with gnats and mosquitoes this time of year. The moist, thick heat glazing over the surface attracted many bugs, so most people were weary to stay by the shoreline for too long. But, you don’t go to Lake Erie to stand still on the beach, you go to ride on a boat. The water stretching out for miles, a never ending horizon, time standing still if only for a moment.
Yet, time was moving. Summer was ending and the new 2011-2012 school year would be starting tomorrow and the students at Wilson High School would soon be walking in with their golden summer tans, fun camp stories and new sporty backpacks.
Well, most of them would.
You see, Wilson New York was a very divided area to live in. On the North side were the mansions, docks, and country club, while on the South side there were the rundown farms, the gas station with one pump and shooting range. It wasn’t uncommon to see a new Mercedes parked next to a red Pick-up truck in the school parking lot.
Still, most of the families who lived there had been there for generations and were friendly with one another. It was the kind of town where everyone knew each other. It was rare for anyone new to move into or leave Wilson…
