Petals in the Thorns
Petals in the Thorns
Isabellele stood at the bus stop waiting on the 7 pm transit, she knew she should have waited on Jack to pick her up, but she couldn’t stand to be around all the noise any longer. The hospital was packed tonight, there was a pile-up on highway 52, lucky no deaths just a couple broken bones, and whiplashes. Every time a nurse came over the PA calling doctor August to the examination room Isabellele’s head rang in pain. Jack was running behind last-minute clients needing repairs done on their systems. Jack loved his career in IT but last-minute latecomers to his office at the end of the day were not his happiest moments.
Wanting to get home and rest her aching feet, and back she decided to take the bus. Something she would have usually never done being that it’s so late, but the flipping baby in her protruding belly said otherwise. Protesting every time a hungry spell came across. Feed us, mommy, I could hear my unborn fetus saying seems like. Opting not to know the sex of the baby just yet, well until the baby shower where my mother in law would reveal to use the surprise. Until then the baby in my belly was just an amazing gift from the lord above.
Every inch of my body was being taken over. Loving my unborn baby already I’m longing for the day when I can see my own feet, or keep down a slice of pizza without later on feeling like my whole insides were about to come out. Finally seeing the bus coming, I sighed in relief. As the bus came to a stop I collected my tote bag, paid the toll and took a seat in the middle of the bus. It wasn’t full but just wanted to be close to the door, so it wasn’t a long way to walk to get off.
Being that this is my second time caring one of our babies, I should be used to all the pregnancy craziness. Let’s just say every pregnancy is different. Sitting down I finally relaxed leaned back, took a deep breath and exhaled. Okay, baby, we are almost home. I said rubbing my now calm fetus.
Taking out my phone, I texted Jack. Took the bus see you at home babe. (*Smiley face, Kiss face*). Jack- Okay babe, walking out the door now, call you in a few. Putting her phone back in her tote Isabellele smiled to herself thinking about her and Jacks journey together, he was indeed the man of her dreams. Isabellele is convinced that there is a God that heard every single one of her prayers when it came to her husband.
10 years ago when she was completely not interested at all, she could tell it was mutual. Isabelle’s co-workers were dying to introduce her to this guy, after going through what seemed like the most horrible break up ever. She wasn’t interested in meeting any more guys at the moment. Ever heard the saying be careful what you pray for, because you just may get it? Well, that’s exactly what happened.
Isabellele was pretty sure that that relationship wasn’t God sent. That relationship left her with nothing, but confusion, heartbreak, and shots to her self esteem. Knowing that she wasn’t going for it, her coworkers set up an in counter anyway. Going into the main building, Isabellele thought her coworker needed her help at work. She didn’t like walking on the manufacturing floor.
New face equals a bunch of stares and who is that? Being that her coworker cuzac was an outgoing person Isabelle knew that he would answer every person that stopped to talk to him, she just wanted to get her work done as soon as possible, so she could finish her shift go home, take a very long steaming hot bubble bath, cuddle up on the couch with her hibachi from her favorite Japanese food spot, and watch lifetime. Isabelle soon realized that wasn’t cuzacs intentions speciously when they stopped in the boxing area, and Isabelle was introduced to this guy. She didn’t think anything of it until she saw the silly grin on cuzacs face and a couple of other bystanders old enough to be her mother looking on. shaking the guy’s hand, he took one look at her and walked away.
How rude she thought, we’ll bump you to than dude. Then he came back walking with some parts and handed them to cuzac, O okay that explains it all, so maybe he wasn’t such a butt head. Stepping back Isabelle noticed his caramel skin that glistened from sweat beads running down his neck forehead and rock hard arms, making his white tee shirt he wore damp exposing his chest pegs. His cornrows came all the way down to his shoulder blades, Isabellele was only 5’4 and she had to look up to him. She thought to her self lord he is fine, but I’ve been down this road before, to good to be true means player.
Isabelle stayed quiet while they finished up than cuzac started packing up, finally, Isabellele thought. Walking back into her office, Isabelle plopped down in her chair, she just wanted to get that Jack guy out her head, even though she couldn’t get the smell of his cologne away, Isabellele was in no way shape or form ready to take on another ego, materialistic, not knowing what he wanted boy. Just than cuzac came in her cubical and sat down looking all suspicious. What did you think about Jack? I didn’t respond.
Well, he wants your number. My number, come on !?! Cuzac I’m not ready for all that, come on just give it a chance, one date after that if he’s like the other jerks you can take it out on me. O you best believe I’m gonna take it out on you….. okay just give him my number, and with that cuzac was out the door. A few minutes later, Ding, my phone went off with a text message.
Jack: Sorry I couldn’t talk save my number and I’ll call you later. Ten years later, two kids and one on the way were still at it…..OUCH! I jumped my baby was kicking like crazy, it’s okay breath, breath Isabellele I thought to myself rubbing my belly realizing I was still on the bus, we are almost there. An active little lady isn’t she, an old lady spoke from beside me. I could have sworn there wasn’t anyone that got on the bus after me…..Ummm we don’t know the sex yet, but yes were both ready to get home. * kick* I looked at my belly sorry having a lot of movement tonight, once I …. she was gone.
O well, maybe another time. * Ring * I know its Jack about to give me the third degree, can’t get mad at him for wanting to check up on me. Hey….hey baby, I said Jason came to his bedroom door, shes fine Jason here go pull the covers back in our bed. Okay, Jason said then sprinted off. Jason is Jack’s son from another relationship, my stepson by marriage, but when it came to it we all ended up taking care of each other just like any whole family would, we have our moments, but what family doesn’t. By the time Jack got me to the room Jason had already turned down the bed, placed my silk maternity PJ’s on the bed with my foam pink slippers on the floor. I could hear water running in the bathroom and the scent of my lavender bubble bath.
Steam already coming from the room. Jason shot past fast all set dad. Thank you, baby, I told him. Shut the door behind you Jack said while lowering me to the bed. Baby your back, I’ll be okay, I’m sure you will make it up to me. O you know I will. Jack sat me down ran to the bathroom and turned the water off, all the while our baby girl pounded on the door. Mommy! Mommy! DaDa! Open the door!
Shush! Jason Yelled. Hush both of you, I heard my mother-n-law say. Knock Knock come in I said. Mom peeked her head in the door. Is everything okay? Yes, I’m fine just a bit tired. Abigal pushed her way in, ran and jumped on the bed mommy! Mommy! I missed you so much! I missed you to love bug. She placed her hand on my stomach and grinned the biggest grin ever. Baby, she said. Right, you’re going to be a big sister, she giggled no I’m not. Yes, you are Jack came up from behind her tickling her until she was squirming okay, okay. I’m gonna be the best big sister ever! Yes, you are baby girl. Alright, little one give mommy and daddy sometime, my mother in law said. But Na Na, don’t nana me. Abigail huffed and puffed its okay baby mommy will come to get you before I go to sleep. Deal? Deal Abigail jumped down and ran out of the room yelling bye mommy, bye daddy. Bye baby, we both said in unison. That girl Jack said, she’s your daughter I laughed. Raising me to a sitting position on the side of the bed. Yep, he said as he helped me remove all my clothing and guided me to the tub. One foot in both feet in as I eased down in the steaming lavender-scented water. I submerged my whole body. Babe let the water rise just the way I liked it, my body began to relax. Jack turned on the flat screen mounted on the wall. Thank you, baby, but no TV tonight just a little jazz, and candlelight. He smiled, looked at me and chuckled, as you wish madame. He turned the TV off, turned the radio on. As the sound of the soft jazz filled the atmosphere, Jack lit the fireplace in the bathroom and dimmed the lights. Thank you, love. Your welcome baby he knelt and kissed the top of my forehead, caressing my cheeks here is the remote if you change your mind about the TV. You know me so well. Knowing that after my body gets use to the effects of the steaming water, I would want to watch my hallmark. That I do baby. Relax, I’ll be back to scrub your back. Gonna check on the kids and make sure they eat. Okay, baby.
