Chapter 1: Persuasion
"I'm not going" I say as I enter the large imposing gates of hell,aka school. My two only friends had been pestering me these past few months to go the Alpha's son's 18th birthday party. Probably in hopes that I find my mate.
"Why not?" Aviana asks as pours and gives me the puppy dog expression. Nope. Not gonna work on me. I trudge through the horde of students with them.
"Yeah, E, why not?" Riley enquires with her arms folded across her chest and an eyebrow raised in skepticism. I sigh as we enter the school building and turn to face them.
"Because I don't want to." I state firmly. "Besides I have better things to do on Saturday. " I retort in high hopes that they leave topic alone and we go to class. But nope. No such luck.
" First of all, that's not a proper reason. Second of all, better things like what?" She asks in a disbelieving tone. I roll my coffee brown eyes. Fun fact: I hate coffee.
"Of course it's a reason. And better things like study for our test, sleep, read a book,watch and play episode" I reply with a slight smirk. Ha! Now she can't say u don't do anything in Saturday but isn't that point of Saturday? Saturdays are meant to be lazy days.
"Wait.....test?"Aviana asks in a confused voice. I stare at her in disbelief but Riley just ignores her.
" You can't honestly give up the chance to.....have fun on a Saturday ". She argues. Annoyed, I nod and retort with" Yes. Yes I can"
"We have a test?" Aviana asks. This time we both ignore her.
"But........." she trails off. I raise an eyebrow.
"But what?" I enquire innocently knowing she's this close to breaking. Her left eye twitches. And bingo.
"But don't you want to find your mate?!!" She tells out making everyone in the hallway to stop and stare at us but mainly her. I give her a look as we quickly go to girl's toilet.
"No I really don't want to. I'm fine being by myself" I reply with shrug and a calm voice.
"But I want you to be happy" She says in a quiet sad voice. I roll my eyes."Who says I'm not happy right now being with yo guys? Given I was annoyed at you I'm not unhappy " I say bumping my shoulder with hers. Her lips lift up in a small smile "You're not?" She asks. "I'm not"I reply. She raises an eyebrow though" I still want you to be happy but if you say you are the I don't need to worry" she says after a moment. I smile and hum. But then can't help but ask "So....I don't have to go?' She laughs and shakes her head. "Oh no you are going. I'm not letting you become a couch potato. Not on my watch." She says.
"But you don't have a watch on" I point out barely holding in my laughter. Avi snorts.
"Oh you did not" she says her shoulders silently shaking as she tries to hold in laughter."I did" I sticking out my tongue childishly.
"Guys we have a test?" Aviana asks ash she stares at us with her sky blue eyes filled with confusion.
"Yes we have a test. Its next Monday." A new voice answers and we all groan in unison.
Not one of the rich bitches.
Can't they leave us be?
"What do you want Deliah?" Aviana i ask. Riley just glares at her and Deliah smirks.
"Can't a girl just check her hair?" She asks with an innocent look on her diamond shaped face as she sashays herself towards the huge mirror above the sink. We roll our eyes.
"No besides what mirror want to have to look at you?" I ensure innocently. She snorts "Good comeback for a.... hag. Why don't you leave the insults to the grown ups and go play in traffic?" She retorts glaring at us. "Anyway toodles peasants" she says then smirking as she sashes out of the bathroom. We all look at each other and the burst out laughing.
"Best way way to start the year." Riley says.
"Ikr" I say. Then after a moment pause"Do you guys think we were too mean?" I ask. I look at them "Nah, besides she literally tripped you don't the first day of high school just because you looked at her. And the day after. And the day after that. In my opinion she and her 'friends' deserve way worse." Avi says folding her arms over her chest. "I- " I'm cutoff by yet another dramatic sharrade.
"Who do you think you are?" Adena,their pompous leader,her auburn shoulder length hair held down with a red headband,her wide set chartreuse eyes glaring at us, but mainly me, in hot fury and her pink glossed plump lips pulled up in a snarl. I roll my eyes tired of this already and sigh inwardly.
She asked for it.
"Nicer,cooler, prettier people?" I ask the sassy tone dripping from my voice like syrupy goodness on a pile of pancakes.
"Either of you cool or pretty? Please. You'd be lucky if someone looked at you twice" she says in a contemptuous manner, her voiced laced with an underlaying of hate. I sigh and just give her a tired look.
"Adena can you please, for the love of Selene,leave us alone? Please? I'm tired of this. Aren't you tired of always having to pick on someone just because you can?" I ask pleading. She smirks, cocks her head to the side"Hmmm lemme see...... NO" she says her smirk drooping and glaring at me and a seriously pissed off expression on her diamond heart shaped face. A while ago the pissed off expression on her face would have scared me shirtless so much but now? Not so much. In fact, not at all. I'm actually feeling perfectly calm.
"Honestly can't say I'm surprised. Should have known you would be extremely bitch cause you're not getting your way. Now if this conversation is done, my friends and I would like to go to class. So move" I say very calmly and keeping eye contact with her.
