First Sight

It was a cool autumn afternoon as Princess Raylin took a stroll through the woods just as she has done before but this time she carried a pack. On the path she noticed a large wolf like creature.

“You know Marcus if you wanted to come with you could of asked.” She said starring at the large brown wolf. The wolf turned to look at her and smiled.

“I would if the royal guard wouldn’t be around you,” The wolf said as he transformed into a man. He walked over to an old tree stump and lifted a bag along with his sword, knife, bow and a shaft of arrows. “ What would your mother think about you hunting with a ranger?” He said with a snicker in his voice.

She glares at him with her diamond blue eyes and replied “ well if you were house trained it’ll be better.” Marcus turns and starts to sniff the air “ Horsemen, four of them heading this way.” He said while turning into a wolf again. As the princess turned around four cloaked riders rode up behind them. “Princess, why are you out here by yourself you know the woods are dangerous.” One of the riders said as She got of her horse. Rey looked at the riders and smiled as she grew up with the four. “The war is far away and we have Rangers her to protect the kingdom and besides I needed to get out of the Castle walls.” She said starring at the riders. Trying to decide to enter as an animal or Ranger, Marcus stayed in the shadows waiting to make his move. All of a sudden a twig cracked and Marcus turned tward the sound with a sword out. “You should hide better Marcus, I spotted you quicker than usual.” The cloaked woman said with a sneer. Looking closely at the woman trying to see who it was then Marcus began to snicker “You should try to be better equipped for a shield maiden the with just a bow and dagger.”

As the woman removed her hood one of the other riders showed up. “Evelyn what are you doing there’s spies everywhere.” At that moment noises came out from the left of the group and everyone dropped to the ground. The ground started to shake as a group of strange creatures rushed passed the group hidden in the ditches. As they rose up they spoted the shape of the footprints left by the creatures. “Who made these?” One of the other shield maddens asked as Marcus examines the prints. “I don’t know I’ll have to ask the Masters of the Corps to see if they spotted any like these in the past.” Marcus said as he rose up. After they found each other they agreed to head back to the Ranger camp together to share their news of the strange creatures that rushed by them moments ago. As hooves meet gravel fear and excitement built inside the six riders. Traveling through the woods the riders noticed that it was weird, for there was not an animal to be seen or heard. As they made a left in the fork of the path a cloaked stranger on a horse stood in the middle of the path. As Rey looked closely she recognized the cloaked figure “Mom?” Rey asked with confusion “What are you doing out here, you usually get mad at me when I come out here.” The Queen turned to the group with a look of sorrow in her face. “ I saw beasts run through here with blood on the blades I, I, I believe that they’ve murdered someone or something over the hill. She said as she begins to sob. The group looked at the hill she was pointing to and saw smoke. As they rushed over the smell of burnt flesh kept getting stronger and the sound of weeping grew louder. By the time they arrived on top of the hill they saw piles of ashes and burnt corpses all over where the farming community once was. In shock the group stood frozen in there steps. “What could do such a thing?” Rey said with tears starting to run down her cheeks. Looking around the group couldn’t see any survivors after the attack. Marcus looked at the tracks and placed his hand over them. “I don’t recognize these prints at all not beast nor man made these.” He said as he rose. As a twig snapped the group jumped and drew their weapons. Out of the bushes a little kid walked twords them. “Have any of you seen my mommy, I can’t find her.” The child said with tears in the eyes. The group looked around at the burnt corps and the puddles of blood. “Why don’t you come with us kid, we’ll get you food and shelter while we look for your mother.” Marcus said trying to sound brave for the kid even though he didn’t know what to do it this situation.
