Escape

"Silence!!" His voice thundered, shaking the ground around me. I, Sabrina Blakely, was cowering in fear. And why? Because of some pig headed man who managed to get the drop on me. Now I was stuck here, victim to his abuse. Not much else I could do, he was higher ranked than I was.

At times like these, when he is most violent, I take the beatings he deals. It's better than the alternative- he hits my baby sister.

I lay on the floor, my once shimmering white and black coat stained red from my last beating. It was easier to take it this way, but harder to control my wolf's whimpers. My abuser, Damien Scott, raised his head from his chair next to the fireplace, only moments after my latest beating. I could practically feel the urge for another go at me rise in him, as his loud booming voice forced silence out of me. I was too close to dying, too close to being able to leave. And he knew that. The expression on his face as he stood from his large, throne-like chair, was all I needed. In my weakened state, it probably wasnt the best thing to do, but something inside me snapped. I had to protect my sister. I had to protect Isabel. No matter what the cost.

A spark of amusement flashed across Damien's eyes as I forced my way into a standing position. I lowered my head and let out a low growl, baring my teeth at him. Standing my ground, I let out a louder, more dominant growl, that suprised Damien. He went from laughing at what he saw as a silly feeble attempt to something that looked like... fear? It was only a glimmer and it quickly faded, but it was definitely fear. I'd know it anywhere. It's the same look Isabel had when he made her watch him beat me. I'll never forget it.

As if that little sliver of momentary fear was a cracked door, I burst through it with all my might. Another one of those low, dominant, growls. This time he just stared at me, amused, like I was a rare flower he needed to pick. I took a step back, whimpering slightly at his harsh gaze, but my wolf only moved forward. She wanted to be free of him and there was no other chance like now. 'He wants us. He cant have us. Not anymore. I refuse. We are getting Bel and getting out of here. Just let me take over.' The faint whisper in my mind reminded me just how weak I really was right now. 'I'm running on adrenaline... what happens when I crash?' My wolf simply let out a calming laugh that warmed my soul and urged me into the darkness, leaving her in control. 'Just leave it to me'. Then, everything faded to black.

I woke up, butt ass naked, my arms wrapped around a small, light brown cub with a white spot on its snout. "Isabel" a sigh of relief freed itself from my aching chest, all my muscles tight, taut and sore. I felt rather timid, knowing I was naked in the middle of nowhere, covered in blood and holding a wolf cub. It wouldn't look right to any sane- or even insane- person. There would be questions for sure, if we were found. I gently pulled my arm from under Isabel, choosing to let her sleep while I figured out just where we were.

I sniffed the air, I could still smell Damien. He wasn't far. And he was coming for us.

Ignoring the pulsing pains that shot through my body, I propped myself up on my arms, looking around. A few feet away, there was a backpack. I smiled as I grabbed it. My wolf was smart. Smart and prepared. I rummaged through the bag, finding food and clothes. Turning back to Isabel, I gently pushed her sleeping form. "Hey Bel, wake up. We need to go." I whispered in hushed tones as to not draw attention to us, but loud enough to wake her. She yelped quietly and attempted to nip my hand, but I was faster. I gently tapped her snout and frowned. "Shift back love. And get dressed." She whimpered and listened, her bones cracking and readjusting to her small 6 year old frame. I pulled out her clothes and gently placed them on the grass. I grabbed a set of my own and quickly threw them on before looking around and plotting our way to freedom.

I spun in a circle, surveying the area we ended up in while Isabel got dressed. My head snapped to the side, hearing a twig break not too far from us. From what I saw, to the right was a snowy exit, easy to track. To the left, a spring exit. We were at a border. I sniffed the air once more and Isabel wrapped her arms around my leg, holding onto me tightly in fear. I growled quietly, holding her head closer to my leg. My eyes began glowing a light purple as I stared in the direction of the noise. After a few moments of nothing, I pulled Isabel off me and kneeled in front of her. "Listen baby, I need you to run. I'll find you. Go that way" I spoke in hushed tones and held her hands to calm her down a bit. I pointed in the snow direction and kissed her forehead, wiping away her tears. "It will be alright Bel. I promise." I gave her a sad smile and put the backpack on her back, gently pushing her in the direction I told her to run. "Go." She whimpered quietly and ran off, tears making their way out of her eyes.

I waited about fifteen minutes after she ran for him to show up. I was still in pain and struggled to hide my trembling at the sight of him. "Ah, my sweet little Sabrina. You didnt manage to get very far did you? I see you dont have little Isa with you. Sent her ahead while you waited for me? How sweet." His vile laughter filled the air. It was nearly suffocating. My head began to spin and I screamed "NO! YOU CAN NEVER HAVE US AGAIN! I REFUSE TO BOW TO YOU EVER AGAIN! ID RATHER DIE FIRST" I snarled, my nails forming into claws as he got closer ignoring my words of pure anger and hatred. "Oh once I'm done with you, I'll find Isabel. Then I'll finally make her mine." It was all too much, his smirk, his laughter, his arrogance. "YOU'LL NEVER HAVE HER!!" I curled my hands into fists, my claws digging deep into my palms. "Dont you dare raise your voice at me!" He raised his hand to slap me. My eyes were glowing a reddish purple, or maybe even both colors, as I caught his wrist in my hand. His wrist snapped under the force of my grip and he cried out in pain. I raised my other hand and slashed my claws across half of his face. I released him and took off as he howled in pain. 'Serves him right after all he has put us through!' I couldn't help but smile and knod at my victory and my wolf's approval.

I was still injured, but somehow managed to forget and overpower Damien. That was until, it hit me. I collapsed in the snow, quite a distance from where I left Damien, writhing in pain. I had several broken bones and probably some internal bleeding, but I had to push through. As a wolf, I heal faster than humans, but due to the constant abuse, it takes longer for me to heal. I was hot on Bel's trail when I collapsed. The freshly fallen snow made it a lot more difficult to track, hence why I picked this direction. But luckily, I happen to have an amazing sense of smell, better than most wolves. And I knew her smell by heart. It was the only thing that got me through the beatings and the pain. Her scent. "Get up" I whispered to myself or maybe it was a mumble, the cold and the pain had me slightly delirious.

I wrapped my arms around my torso and forced myself up, back on her trail. I mumbled incoherently to myself along the way, so incoherently that even I had no clue what was coming out of my mouth.

After a few hours of walking and following Isabel's scent, I found her in a icey cave. She was curled up in my blanket, jacket, and anything else she could find with my scent on it. I couldnt help but laugh at the cute sight, she had to be freezing. I knew I was. I walked up to her and pulled off the blanket, wrapped it around myself before wrapping my arms around her. I could hear the light chatter of her teeth as she shivered. "Shh its alright baby, I'm here. We will rest here and keep moving in the morning. Just know Bel, I'll do anything, anything, to keep you safe and protect you." I placed a gentle kiss atop her head and sighed a quiet sigh of relief. We had done it. We escaped that monster. We were free. On the run with the constant risk of capture, but it was better, closer to freedom. Isabel soon fell asleep, warmed in my arms. I couldn't bring myself to sleep though. Something deep inside was telling me that this wasn't over, to be on guard. 'This is only the beginning.'
