Prologue: The New Blood
Prologue:
The New Blood
Kit couldn’t believe his luck! After all these years of training, he was finally going to go out on his first mission! Now, after waiting for so long, the Fang was going to see that he was worthy of joining their ranks. All he had to do was make sure that, under no circumstances, he didn’t mess up. He would achieve success in this mission if it was the last thing he did!
He gathered everything he would need and left the barracks that had been his home for the past 53 years. With more than the usual enthusiasm for a routine scouting mission, he made his way, merrily, to the castle.
“Kit! You’re not heading out already, are you?” He turned around to see Selma, his childhood friend, dropping from a nearby tree. “You haven’t even said goodbye!” She smiled at him, showing the grin that always made him melt inside.
“Sorry Selma. I tried to find you earlier.” He reached into his bag and pulled out the rose he had created the night before, using the magic that had been taught to him by his uncle, who had actually got to spend time training with Sakura, the Crimson Fox! He handed the rose to Selma, remembering his uncle’s stories. “I wanted to give this to you. It’s my way of promising that I’m coming back.” He smiled back at her, as he watched her face light up. “Wait for me.”
Selma beamed at Kit. “How did you get this? Roses haven’t grown in Crimsonia since the Altros attacked!” “I created it using magic!” “You did that for me?” “I’d do anything for you!” Their conversation was cut short by the sound of the Horn of Summoning, signaling that Kit had to make his way to the castle immediately. “Sorry Selma, I have to go. I’m getting my first mission!” As he ran off, Selma yelled to him. “I’ll wait for you! Be careful!” He yelled back, “It’s just a routine scouting mission! I should be fine!” Selma watched as he ran toward the castle, planning their lives together.
