1 - The snake bit its own tail.

Mankind has always had the habit of solving their own problems the easy way.

Mankind has always had the problem of thinking itself infallible.

Mankind has always had the arrogance to think of itself as the center of the universe.

People die every day because of their stupid actions and ways of thinking.

Because of that, Mankind can learn and evolve.

Death sometimes is a good thing.

.

“The greatest advances in civilization are processes in which the societies in which they occur are ruined.”

.

Year:2020

Mysterious beings who presented themselves as refugees from a self-destructive alien civilization sought refuge on earth in exchange for all the remaining technology and knowledge they possessed.

Year: 2030

After 10 years since the first contact and exchange, Mankind has finally conquered the space warp engine technology.

Year:2036

After 1 year since the first contact with an extraterrestrial civilization with a similar technological development named NOAH, located on planet Kepler-186f orbiting a red dwarf star called Kepler-186, Mankind establishes an embassy on its main planet.

Year:2050

Mankind and NOAH in joint dark matter research uncover an incredible phenomenon when manipulating it into genetic modifications, Mankind and NOAH by the status of biology can now reach the hitherto impossible, called scientifically of free manipulation of energy, FME, popularly called in the Earth as Magic.

Year:2059

The Mankind and the NOAH race declare war on each other because the result of a human research on parallel universes shows that it is possible to travel to other universes through a black hole. NOAH, afraid of Mankind gaining overwhelming superiority, launches a large-scale war to obtain the research material.

Year:2060

As the war rages on, a homunculus scientist secretly completes the research that everyone is fighting for and steals humanity’s most advanced spacecraft, departing shortly afterward towards a black hole.

In the vast starry sky, a huge hole in space, that seemed to be able to attract even the soul of its starer, surrounded by an extremely hot rotating disk of matter, calmly seemed to await what was rapidly moving toward itself.

A few light-years away, a white light cut the starry sky.

In a large white room, several red lights flashed endlessly on various types of equipment that floated and seemed to orbit a seat in the center of the room. In this seat, a man who looked to be in his twenties with blue eyes and long white ponytailed back hair observed with a dignified look, data and abstruse statistics on a screen that floated in front of him while his right-hand fingers non-stop touched a screen that was wrapped around his left wrist.

“Heh, these guys are really crazy.” The man said

“After all if they weren’t, they wouldn’t raise me...” While thinking this, the man extended his right hand toward a slightly distant screen and just after the screen approached slowly. After looking at the data on the screen for a while the man laughed bitterly.

“Even after completing and reviewing the research, my chances of success are so ridiculously low!?”

“Looks like it’s better I decide this before I get to the black hole... But I have no idea how to choose.” Soon after thinking about it the man suddenly, as if a light bulb had been lit in his head, had an idea.

“Assistant, calculate which name suits me best.” The man spoke seriously while staring at the screen surrounding his left wrist.

Just after, a hologram rose from his left wrist forming the miniature image of a boy with red eyes and short black hair in a red coat.

“I’ll start calculating based on your actions and thinking since you left the incubator five years ago ... But honestly, I’ve had a name for you ever since I was implanted in your left wrist and connected to your brain cortex.” The boy said

“Hoh? and what name is it?” The eye of the man shine

The boy then smiled brightly and answered: “Demens.”

“...Is that so?” The man laughed

“...I think this is not wrong at all...” The man spoke as he thought deeply

He began to remember everything he has been doing since he was born. And 73% of things were what other homunculus scientists called crazy and the other 27% was what they called a waste of time. But they simply never imagined that it would be from this 27% that research on parallel dimensions would be born. He still clearly remembers the shock on everyone’s face when he presented the possibility of dimensional travel. He also remembered when pure-line scientists (non-homunculus) forcibly seized all his material and ordered him to stop this research. Because of this he almost went insane, and in order to take revenge, he not only continued the search secretly but also created plans to steal the most advanced spacecraft of mankind, which was hitherto under construction, on the planned opening day.

I think carefully the word ‘Demens’, which in Latin means mad, at least for other people is indeed adequate to define his life.

The boy, seeing the man thinking deeply, can’t help but say:

“Is this the famous phenomenon they say predates death?”

Shortly after the boy said that a yellow light began to flash on a screen a little distant, seeing this, the boy extended his right hand in that direction and then when the screen stopped in front of him and he observed the data for a moment, he asked the man:

“Do you believe in God?”

The man, surprised by the sudden question, was about to answer when he accidentally visualized the data on the screen that the boy pulled in his front.

“...”

“Do you believe in God?” The boy asked again

“...To me God is a concept, can be the creator of the universe for one group of people or representations of nature for another, whether or not ‘God’ exists is impossible to say. After all, we are just mortals who still can’t travel to even the nearest galaxy.” The man answered and after a while asked back:

“What do you think?”

“I think we’ll find out soon if it really matters.” The boy answered while smiling mischievously

“I want a name too, can you give me one?” The boy spoke suddenly

“Do you want it in Latin?” The man asked

“Yes.” the boy answered seriously

The man thought for a while and then finally said:

“It’s Comes, since you never left my side.”

Comes then smiled brightly and said: “Thanks.”

“And my name? we don’t have much time!” The man asked anxiously

“I’m still calculating this.” Comes answered with a smirk

Shortly after Comes said that a vibration spread throughout the spacecraft.

The man and Comes look to each other, they know what it means, they are arriving at their destination.

“Comes, help me start the operation of the space breaker engine, set destination to the center of the black hole.” The man said with a slightly happy face

“Comes, start winding the hawking field around the ship, start the Planck centrifuge!”

“Comes, how is the superstring field around the black hole?”

“First, the ring of the space-breaker engine began to spin around the ship, time to reach maximum spin speed: 1 minute.” Comes said, also with a slightly happy face

“Second, hawking field successfully involved the entire ship, the Planck centrifuge is ready to coordinate the space breaker engine.”

“Third, is as predicted in the simulations, all ten dimensions are in chaos and near collapse.”

As the scientist and Comes coordinate, suddenly blue spaceships emerge from the hot rotating disk around the black hole, each of the ships is almost cylindrical in shape and has two rotating rings around themselves.

In the largest spacecraft between them, within a room with various floating equipment, a two-meter-high being stands upright, with a bronze skin, this being has four legs and two arms, has four eyes with large blue pupils around a large nostril in its head that is twice the size of a human skull, with an opening that looks like a mouth under the chin. This being wears a completely green uniform with several blue medals on his chest.

With an incomprehensible language he seemed to give orders to the other spaceships, and as if finally deciding something, the being held out his five-fingered right hand toward a screen in the corner of the room. As soon as he touched the screen a few times, it began to flash in white light, as if waiting for its operation to be completed. A few seconds after the screen stopped flashing, the image of a man with blue eyes and a long white ponytailed back hair appeared.

“I decided to give you a chance to live, I don’t know if you’re interested?” The being suddenly spoke with a human language

On the screen, the man suddenly smiled slightly and asked:

“Finally decided to talk? I thought the NOAH were irreconcilable with humanity... I really don’t think it’s bad to live, what kind of chance do you offer, NOAH space-fleet commander?”

“I have the authority to allow you to live peacefully on one of the moons of our main planet if you accept my conditions. First, you must take your ship out of its space-fold state and enter our formation. Second, submit the material of the research about dimensional travel to us.” The NOAH commander said

“I’ll give you a minute to decide if after the time is up you don’t decide or deny, I’ll give orders to all fifteen ships at my command to fire the plank particle cannons at you.” The NOAH commander threatened

The man on the screen seemed to think deeply for several seconds until, as if making a very difficult decision, said with a bitter smile:

“I accept your conditions, I’m already removing the spacecraft from space warp mode.”

After hearing this, Commander NOAH as if to confirm, pulled a screen on his front and watched the data for a few seconds until finally said:

“I’ll give you our coordinates, if you don’t come towards us in the next 10 seconds we’ll open fire.” Commander NOAH said while tapping the screen around his left wrist with his right-hand fingers several times.

After a while the man in the screen as if confirming the coordinates received, looked at one of the screens next to him and, after 10 seconds, suddenly let out a malicious laugh.

“HEHEHEHEHE.”

After hearing that laugh, Commander NOAH suddenly had a bad premonition and then immediately pulled one of the screens floating in the room and it showed an image where, just above the hot disk of matter, a white quadrangular-shaped spacecraft, with three rings spinning around itself, with two smaller ones spinning in the same direction and one larger, and covering the other two, spinning at incredible speed in the opposite direction of the small ones.

Seeing the three rings, the commander NOAH suddenly as if understood something, anxiously shouted an order in an incomprehensible language.

“Late.” The man in the screen said happily

After saying that the screen where the man was darkened

In space all fifteen blue spaceships suddenly had their rings increasing rotational speed, and as if afraid of something they began to spread in different directions. After a few seconds, all the ships had a slight blue glow covering themselves. And approaching the fleet is a white spaceship with a slight white glow beginning to surround it.

In the white spaceship, the man, sitting in the center of the room, suddenly asked:

“Comes, if we are lucky, what will be our first destination?”

“I set our first destiny as a universe like ours in the physical principles because, if we want to do as you foolishly dreamed, we will first need a predictable universe to analyze the dimensional travel data and make important adjustments for a chance of success.” A sound with an answer came from his left wrist.

“...”

“My name?” The man asked

A hologram rose from his left wrist to form a boy who was looking at the man with a smile.

“It’s Sine Conpedes since you always do everything your own way”

“... Without fetters ...” The man as if enlightened began to laugh foolishly.

Shortly thereafter, the space within the room began to show signs of distortion, until finally began to collapse and eventually, the snake bit its own tail.

Centered on the white spaceship, a great spatial distortion spread and hit the fleet trying to pull away at full speed. People who were flying the spacecraft, suddenly as if sensing danger, began to watch the white spaceship and, to their immeasurable surprises, a hole in space slowly began to form in its original position and, as if it had reached a critical point, exploded and swallowed the entire fleet in the energy that seemed to come out of a supernova.

Heika van Walderveen: I had to get used to the style. It’s a lot of switching and getting back into the story of the characters. Also the different timelines were a bit confusing in the beginning. But once you’re used to it, it’s really quite original. The plot is good, but it’s only book 1 (out of 3), but so far so good...
