Chapter 1

Cora

It was slightly raining when I drove to school. I hope it stops soon I thought while parking my blue Jeep. Running to the entrance of the school. I open the door and walk in and see my crush Scott Stonewall making out with his girlfriend Harley Timber.

Harley and I where friends since she moved here from Arizona in middle shcool. When we got to highschool she just stopped being my friend because I wasn't popular as her. When I found out that they were dating I was heartbroken. She knew I liked him since 5th grade but that didn't stop her from dating him.

I walk past them to my locker. I start to grab my algebra books. "Hey, Cora." I hear someone say behind me. I turn around to see Matt. "Hey, Matt." I said before turning back around to grabbing algebra books.

"So I'll pick you up at seven tonight." he asked leaning on the locker next to me trying to impress me.

"Yeah." I simply answered while closing my locker.

"Cool. See you tonight." he said as he creepily tucked a piece of my hair behind my ear. I shiver hoping he wouldn't do that again I stare at him as he walks past Scott who was now staring at me. I stop staring at his once the bell rings.

It was finally Lunch time. I grab a tray with food on it and sit down at the table that I always sit at and started to wait for Jackie.

"Hey, when where you going to tell me you going to prom with Matt?" Jackie asked sitting down next to me.

"Sorry, I thought you already knew." I replied looking down at my cheese pizza.

"Its fine. Do you have a dress," She asked.

"Of course I have a dress Jackie." I replied smiling a little.

We eat our food and chated for the rest of lunch.

"So do you want to come over and do my makeup and hair?" I asked since I couldn't do makeup to save my own life.

"I thought you would never ask. Of course I want to." Jackie said. "What time is Matt picking you up?" She asked as got up and threw our trash away and startred to head to gym.

"Aorund seven." I said as girls locker room.

"Okay I'll meet you at your Jeep after school." she said walking to her gym locker.

After I changed into my P.E. clothes I walk into the gym where Jackie already is. I walk over to her I hear Harley talking about how I'm going to prom with Matt. I walk past Harley and she stops talking. I roll my eyes and stop next to Jackie.

"What's going on?" I ask.

"We're climbing that wall thing." she said turning to me and pointing to the rock climbing wall. Then back to staring at Daniel my twin brother.

"Go and ask him out already." I said.

"No, it's not that simple." she knowing exactly what I'm talking about.

"Actually it kinda is." I said turning towards her.

"Really if it's so easy why don't you go ask out Scott." she said turning towards me.

"Touché." I said. "Touché Jackie." I repeated then turning my attention back to coach Jackson.

"Alright delinquents listen up." He yelled making me flinch. "We will be climbing this rock wall." He said yelled a little quieter then last time. "When I call your name come up and stand by the wall." He yelled again. "Daniel Ray and Jackie Brooklyn." He yelled the names of my brother and Jackie.

They both walked up to the wall and started to climb up it. My brother was slowly climbing up the wall so he could stare at Jackie's ass. I rolled my eyes at him and thought could he be any more obvious then he miss placed a step and fell. Before he could hit the ground the safety harness caught him.

Coach Jackson laughed and said "Your pain gives me a special feeling inside."

"Okay now, Cora Ray and Avery Whittemore, you're up." he yelled.

I walked up to the to the wall with Avery.

When I got to the wall and had the safety harness on I started to climb up the wall when I was almost done that's when Avery started to freak out. "Are you okay." I whispered to her.

That's when she started to cry. "Hey, it's okay. You'll be okay. Just let go of the wall, the mat will catch you." Coach Jackson yelled up to Avery.

"She's fine. She's just freaking out." I heard Harley say. I rolled my eyes at Harley. What a bitch.

"Is it vertigo?" Coach Jackson asked Avery.

"Umm... Coach, Vertigo is an problem in your inner ear. You know she's epileptic right?" I asked Coach Jackson while tucking a piece of my strawberry blonde hair behind my ear.

"No. Why does nobody tell me stuff." He yelled to nobody really.

"Hey Avery, I'll drop down with okay." I whispered to Avery not really caring if I fail gym. She nodded her head. "On the count of three." I said preparing myself. "One." I started to count down. "Two." "Three." We both let go of the wall and before we could hit the mat the safety harness caught us.

When we both got out of the safety harness thingy everybody started to laugh at Avery. When she realized they were laughing at her she ran away crying. I looked at them and thought what a bunch of assholes. I ran after her. "Hey, are you okay." I ask her when I caught up to her in the girls locker room.

She looked at me and scoffed probably thinking I came to make fun of her. Before I could stop her she ran away.

I sigh then walk back to gym were Jackie was waiting me.

The school day was finally over. I let out sigh in relief. When I got to my Jeep Jackie was already there waiting for me.

"I never got a chance to ask is that Avery girl okay?" She asked while waiting for me to unlock my Jeep.

"I don't think so she ran away before I could ask her anything." I replied while fishing for my keys in my bag.

"Have you found you're keys yet?" Jackie asked getting tried of standing there.

"Yep there right here." I said while holding up my keys and showing them to her.

"Finally" she said yanking open the car door.

I rolled my as I got into the car. As I start the car Bad Guy by Billie Eilish starts playing on the radio.

Half way to my house Jackie asked me a question. "Do you think there something off about your prom date Matt?"

"I'm glad I'm not the only one you feels that way." I said getting goosebumps just thinking about him.

"Maybe I shouldn't go to prom with him." I said starting to feel uneasy.

"No, you should go to prom. Even if it's with him." Jackie said.

"Okay." I said not convinced.
