Strawberry Dwarf
I take slow steady breaths while rushing towards the sliding doors for the third time. I have been rushing around this godforsaken building for 15 minutes but I still haven't seen the sign "Hall-room" and when I stopped two model looking women to help me they snickered. I could see the judgement in their eye's while they scanned my outfit I mean it's not my fault that sneakers, jeans and a simple baseball shirt does not cut it for them. My lips stretch as soon as I see a lady who appears to be in her early fifties with a tied up bun that draws attention away from the wrinkles underneath her eyes.
"Hello dear" She says with a bright smile that happens to be contagious because I feel my heart rate going back to it's steady pace and a smile overtaking my features. Finally someone who doesn't look like the evil witch Muriel from the story Hansel and Gretel.
"May I help you dear?" I got so lost in my thoughts that I didn't even see the lady get up and walk up to me. When I look down at her a sense of pride runs through my veins due to the fact that this time I happen to not be the shortest person in the room, it was so bad in high school that I was known as Strawberry dwarf. I remember how that nickname came into existence, I was so happy that day thinking that I could matter somehow in that school. However as soon as I walked out of the locker room and jogged onto the field with the Strawberry mascot that the cheerleaders actually swapped in place of the original mascot. Do not question me on how I didn't know which mascot costume to wear. Everyone on the stands looked at me and started chanting "Strawberry-Dwarf".
I felt so humiliated that day but that was not the worst nickname considering the fact that Kevin Hampton called me train track face(this was my crush in ninth grade by the way) and then other's called me ugly Betty but I mean I took the insults because I couldn't blame them.
My bad acne and braces most certainly did not make me look like America's next top model. My face starts to heat up when I hear the lady clear her throat to get my attention.
"Oooh...uuurh... gosh sorry.I'm Amberlina, an intern" I mutter quickly feeling shy all of a sudden from her sharp gaze but even with that gaze this lady looks like she wouldn't even hurt a mosquito even if it was sucking the life out of her while being awake
"Oh you the last one to arrive, I was starting to think you got abducted by foreign aliens" she says while chuckling at her odd sense of humor nevertheless I smile at her attempt and feel grateful that friendly people do exist in this place.
"Sorry I overslept and when I finished I tried to catch the bus in time but it-" I start to ramble but stop when I hear her actually chuckling at me instead of being angry
"It's fine Amberlina, just make sure you make it to the hall-room in time for the presentation" She waves her hand dismissively while my eye's widen in disbelief that I completely forgot about the most important thing, my feet start moving on it's own after I thank the lady.
I find it in about five minutes of speed walking however when I look down at my yellow and blue watch I see that I'm actually not just five minutes late with my body going into full energy mode I trip over my feet then start reaching out to the door purely out of instinct to stable myself however it seems like the universe is against me today because the door just happens to open which results in my face hitting the wooden floor, kids! Please do not try this at home it's the worst feeling.
I'm sure my face looks like a cherry due to how much my face is heating up when I see a pair of blue eye's staring back at me while he puts his fist in his mouth to prevent himself from laughing. Oh come on out of all first impressions I make this had to be it. I get up slowly with the little bit of dignity I have left
"Well this is new you don't always get small girls falling face first for me, I mean I'm hot darling but you didn't have to fall to get my attention" I hear how he drags out the word darling with a smirk plastered on his face what a prick firstly I mean I'm short but to insult me like that and to not even make sure I'm fine is just disrespectful.
"Uuuurh...yeah... do you know where I need to go for the intern presentation?" I mentally cringe when I hear how I stuttered, why am I stuttering actually I mean this guy doesn't even look scary instead he appears to be playful and quite good looking
I lift my head up high even though my pride is heavily bruised from the fall.
"Well I will tell you-" I smile slightly feeling relieved "- in exchange for a kiss" he finishes off and with that being said my smile drops instantly.
I shake my head feeling annoyed that this dumb arrogant prick won't help me, I snap out of my trance and head towards the door feeling annoyed by this guy's presence until I feel a soft yet rough hand wrap around my wrist causing me stop and glare at his hand
"Look pretty boy, get a stripper or whatever if you want a kiss so badly but this person right here has to leave" I hiss lowly trying to maintain my composure
After rushing through corridors I find a room filled with people seated all over, I guess this is it I breathe out when I see the white and blue sign with the word 'Interns'. After the presentation I find my room and realise that it's actually quite big for one person but I'm thankful that I don't have to go through a Rodger and Jimmy situation again.
******
I cringe slightly at the sun beaming through the window and hurting my eye's but a smile creeps up onto my face when I realise how adventurous my life is about to become. I take a shower and dress up quickly.
I arrive outside near the fields where they instructed us to go during the presentation and see the rest of the people which appears to be more females than males here.
"Ok ladies and well gentlemen listen up-" a guy who looks like a small version of the hulk gives us a deadpan look which indicates that he is all work and no play
"-My name is Joe, I will be your facilitator, trainer as well as your worst nightmare with the help of Sandra who will be assessing all of you and we will be picking five candidates that are well suited for a job here. Everyone will be doing tests with obstacles and even go to some of the football matches to assist in medical help but that has to be earned, this will also guide you with the choice of whether you would like to work on the field or in the office. With that being said follow me to the pit-" before Joe can even finish his sentence people gasp as soon as they hear the word 'pit'.
The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the word pit is a dirty place with a few homeless people there but when we finally arrive there after moving slower than chameleons I'm actually surprised with the pit.
Xoxoxo
