Chapter 1
July 6, 2014
"Raven!" My mom called hwe face twisted into a nasty snarl.
"What do you want?"I asked,my mother and I had never had a good relationship and after my father had an accident and died, it had become close to nonexistent. My elder sister, hazel and I were saddled with the responsibly of providing for the family.
Our little sister Maya, was still very oblivious to the reality of our situation and we preferred to keep it that way.
"You stayed at home today, you and your sister need to work cause obviously this bills won't pay themselves" she said making me glare at her
"I'm sick mum" I said and I truly was, working at a small cafe which paid a lot less than the work being done and since I was still seventeen and still schooling, I had no certificate yet and couldn't try out for a better job.
"I'm sick too but you don't see me sitting around doing nothing all day"
"You sit around doing nothing all day" I snapped
"Did you just talk back to me" she asked but instead of getting into a fight that would lead to multiple bruises and injuries, I shook my head. Pulling out a chair, she sat down, her face excited as she stared at the drugs in front of her.
"You told us that you had stopped"I said staring at her in disgust
She turned to me, a murderous glint in her eyes, I knew better so I trudged up the dented staircase. Going into my room, I slammed the door shut and it groaned almost like it was in pain. The brown paint covering the walls were slowly but surely peeling into an ugly shade. My phone ringing brought me out of my reverie
"Hazel" I called uncertain
"Come over by ten"she said and hung up on me
The relationship between us had become strained especially now that she was living with her friend.
An hour later, I was at a party with her and I was the designated driver. I knew there was a possibility that she would do this, she drank and partied when things became too much for her to handle. Sighing, I decided I'd had enough, it was thirty minutes past eleven when I forced her back into the car with the intention of getting her home. It was dark outside and I was thankful that there were barely any cars on the road to our house. Turning on the radio, I sang along to radio by lana Del Rey.
Suddenly a car crashed into ours, it all happened in slow motion as the windscreen shattered, the car spun uncontrollably and the the car falling onto it's back. Our screams pierced the night.
I felt someone's hands encircle mine then a soft voice whispering sorry to me. I saw the blood pooling around my body and I screamed that blood curdling screams you horror movies. My vision blurred and then bright lights flashed upon my face followed by different voices. I heard the tapping of the rain upon the body of the car before passing out.
