Prologue

At first there was nothing. No light and no darkness. No life and no death.

Then, suddenly, there was the Melody, its sound vexing my ears unaccustomed to its constant resonation.

Soon, the rest of my senses started coming back to life. A single flame appeared before eyes burning the nothingness away. I could feel its warmth on my face and the solid earth beneath my feet. Simultaneously, a strong gust of wind shoved me from the back, and my toes met the gentle touch of water.

I didn’t know why I was here nor where exactly was here The feeling of calmness began to gradually fade away and panic struck me. Who was I?

Something felt wrong. Everything was wrong, nothing was right. It wasn’t my place. Never been and never would. The discomfort and sudden pressure of stress made my body go stiff.

Only when the shadows started shifting and being drawn closer to me, could I finally take a breath. I blinked opening my eyes to realize everything was yet again gone. The whole landscape replaced with soothing darkness. No more lights. No more empty promises of happiness. No more annoying sounds of the Melody. I was being slowly encased in the darkness and felt its tentacles tightening their grip on my body. There was no physical pain – just a growing mental pressure, which soon flooded me with memories.

Images were racing through my mind. There was nothing I could possibly do to snap out of it. It was like trying to stop a volcano from erupting by jumping straight into it.

A few moments – or maybe hours – later the flood more itself out leaving me defenseless to the truth. A the same moment I regained full control of my body and tried to take a deep breath only to choke on the soil that immediately filled my mouth.

Without a moment of hesitation began to claw my way up to the surface.
