The Call
On a severely stormy night in October there was a young woman named Siah in her mid-Twenties sitting on her bed and looking at her Tarot deck. She has sea green hair, a tattoo of a Siren on her chest, a birthmark of a crescent moon on her inner right wrist, marking her as a Crescent Born witch, and several facial piercings. She knew from the storm that the reading she was soon to draw was going to be very gloomy.
All of a sudden her cat Arcana jumped up on her bed and started mewling crazily. Arcana had once been a stray and was absolutely terrified of storms despite her being dark as night. Siah picked up Arcana and began rubbing her underneath her chin and she said “Shush now my dear, I am here and everything is going to be alright. You don’t have to be out in those anymore. You are safe.”
Arcana calmed down finally and booped Siah's deck with her nose. Siah took the hint and gave Arcana one last chin rub and picked up her deck and spread them before herself. She decided on a basic three card draw, and drew them one by one
The first from the middle, the second from the left, and the third from the right. The first card was the situation, the second was the person it pertained to, and the last was the solution. The first card was Death, the second the Empress, and the third the Devil inverted. She instantly froze and was in shock. Her readings were never wrong when Death was drawn.
She began to shake and go numb. She tried relentlessly to get ahold of her mother, whom the Empress represented. To no avail she tried to call and text her with no response. The Devil represented temptation and addiction, but Karli had no idea at the time that’s what the card meant.
She couldn’t sleep and was restless the rest of the night and Arcana never left her side. She decided about 2:30 in the morning to call her best friend Nichole to see if she would come over. Nichole answered her phone. “Nikki here, what’s up?” Siah was still shaken up from her reading and her voice shook as she replied “Nikki, I need you to come over. The cards....” Nichole went silent and knew something was wrong and her best friend needed her. “I’ll be there in like, 5. Make some tea and breathe, girl.”
Siah decided to make a Strawberry Peppermint herbal tea because she knew she wouldn’t be sleeping anytime soon. By the time the tea was ready and coffee mugs were set out, Nichole was opening the door with the key she was given upon Siah's move into the spacious house she was renting. Siah took one look at her bestie and pointed towards her room.
When Nichole came back from looking at the reading her eyes were huge and she was shocked. Both girls got a mug of tea and sat on the couch with Arcana between them. Neither one knew what to say, but the company and tea was a welcome comfort for Siah.
Around 3 in the morning during a movie Siah got a frantic and dreadful call from her sister Harley. Her sister was bawling and it was hard to understand her, but Siah knew what it pertained to and proceeded to put her sister on speaker.
“I’m so sorry sis. I just. I just got home.... I didn’t know. I didn’t think. She’s gone. She’s gone sissy. I found her on my couch. “ Those were the words Siah heard from Harley before she lost it and started screaming.

Woah, did her mother die? Great chapter btw1
Yes. The book is based on my life since the loss of my mother. It's a coping mechanism for me and my grief.
