Chapter 1(revised)

2019

The ringing sound could be heard but no one bothered to shut that damn thing. Not like there were as many people there present, except the one person sprawled across her own bed. Eyes stuck on the ceiling like it was the most interesting thing at this moment. She wasn’t dead or anything, she just didn’t want to move that’s all.

It has been like this for a few hours, her thoughts were all her in mind now and she wishes nothing but to be alone with them. Wondering how everything turned so chaotic and complicated wasn’t getting around her head but that doesn’t stop her from trying to find an answer. Although she knows one thing, and that is, how everything had started.

Flashback

It was the summer of 2013. College was starting just near the corner and here I was holding my box and one blue luggage that happened to be not so in good condition because of the busted wheel. Don't ask how that happened. I made my way to the desk up in front but there was no one. Turning my head to the right I see a glass door that led to a staircase. Apparently no elevator in sight. Oh please let there be an elevator. I kept turning on my heels impatiently when suddenly someone spoke from behind me.

Do you have your key to the room? she asks all of a sudden. My eyes take in her visual, brown hair in a bun, blue eyes, a tall nose, and thin lips. She didn't look much old, maybe in her early thirties. Her body was in good shape probably more toned than mine. I really need to work out more.

No. I-I just came here.

What's your full name?

Katherine White. I say as she types away on her computer. Room 613, here is the key.

Um... is there an elevator? She looks at me as if I asked her the most ridiculous question ever. Of course! Good heavens, what do you think we live in the 1990s? It's through the glass doors, take a left by the stairs.

I give her a tight smile and leave as fast as I could before she assumes any more ammunition than she already does. I wait for the lift to open and it does. The heavy baggage wasn't helping with my struggle when suddenly a pair of hands grabbed over mine.

I yelp out of surprise when the person speaks. Need a hand? The voice was so deep and so velvety that I almost was hypnotized by them. Uh, yes thanks. He takes it with ease. Wow, he is strong or I am just weak.

He asks which floor and I showed him my key to which he kindly pressed the button for me. That was it. Is he getting off the same floor? It didn't take long before we reach my floor and helps me off so I follow him. He stops in front of a door, I am guessing it's mine but that thought was gone when he started to open it with his own set of keys. Shit! Am I rooming with him? But he is a guy, not that it matters but he was a hot guy. Okay, act cool and just ask him casually. But before I could mutter a word he says, You might want to wait here for a bit. I just need to check something.

Okay. I say more like a whisper. He closes the door and I stand there like an idiot trying to process everything. Being a roommate with a hot guy wasn't something I looked forward to, but my curiosity was much stronger. I looked around the place and it screamed masculine. For a guy it sure was clean. Not too much was going on only a huge grey couch and a round coffee table where all his magazines were stacked. Oh, I hope it wasn't the playboy magazines. A flat-screen attached to a stereo and what looks like Xbox or something. Typical. The kitchen looked way too clean to be in use. Not a single photo or wall decor.

My eyes scanned all around but stopped when they fell on a door that was slightly ajar. It felt like someone was inside, the light emanating was a little dull, and a shadow moving kind of gave off the presence of something or maybe someone. My feet moved on their own little by little inching my steps like giving myself to think if it was a good idea to invade a stranger's privacy. Just then the door closed with a slight thud. I jumped a little at the sound and that's when the previous guy came back from behind.

You're all good to go.

Good to go? wait, what does he mean by that? I thought... this was the room. He looked at me as if he was trying to wait for me to claim it as a joke. But his face changed when he saw that it wasn't the case. As much as I like the idea, sadly it's not. The room across this is yours. See, he pointed at the most obvious thing, 613.

Being embarrassed was an understatement at this point for me. Seriously what is it with me today? It's like I vowed to be the clown or something. I guess I should just walk away without saying anything. Who knows what my stupid self might do or say? Uh- Thanks I guess. I walked ahead quickly, inserting the key to my new room.

I'll see you, right? he asks. It felt like he knew that I have been planning on hiding away from him. Well, he's not wrong. I was planning on it but now, I don't know. Not when he is asking like this. His eyes were almost like he was pleading. Come on it's all in your head, you just met the guy. I don't know what made me say it but I did.

Yes... of course.

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters. I know it sounds critical, but I have the same problem and I hate it. Overall, it was one of the best stories I've read on here so far. I liked it better than those M...
