Prologue
Betty and Aria settle into chairs across from each other at the cafe table. Betty pulls out a compact and smooths her hair back. Aria rolls her eyes.
Betty glances up for a second, then pulls out lipstick and starts applying it. “What’s wrong with you, Aria?” she asks her sister disgustedly.
Aria sighs and shrugs. “I suppose it’s just me, but I’ve heard that vanity kills,” she informs Betty.
Betty laughs, then closes her compact with a snap! placing it and the lipstick back in her bag. “Hmm, well, this sounds like it could amuse me for a couple hours... what the hell, go on then!” She giggles and waves her hands about, leaning back in her chair.
Aria sighs and sets down her coffee as the barista gives Betty her pancakes and Aria her waffle. Aria nods and smiles at her and then turns back to her sister.
“Well, it all started with a beautiful young woman,” — Betty smiles and fluffs her hair as Aria rubs her temples — “named Margaret, a handsome young man named Hunter, and an ugly old wizard...”
