Chapter 1

She wanted to crush him, crumble him like cookies in a food processor. She forced herself to smile at him. He had just dumped the kids at her house for an emergency vacation.

“Of course, I understand. Why don’t you and Alissa enjoy your vacation?” Her ex-husband smiled back at her and thanked her for her understanding.

Janey nodded. “I understand completely,” she said, “you deserve some time off…” Frank was clearly happy and didn’t even have the decency to hide it. How could she have once loved this man? He was so inconsiderate… Why hadn’t she seen that before?

Before he had ruined her life… Crushed her spirit. It was a boring old tale… The cheating husband. Not much needed to be said about that… Someone new came along, fresher and shinier… much like a new car…

Frank had been so reasonable. Far too reasonable and she hated him all the more for it. He had done it on purpose. It would be hard to argue against someone reasonable… It was all a trick…

He had gotten joint custody. She resented him so much for that. He wanted to seem involved. Be the modern man. Be the responsible parent. All the other divorced women loved him for it. But not Janey… She hated him all the more fiercely… Especially since she couldn’t complain to her tribe about it.

“If only my ex looked after his kids… Had some real attention for them…” they said. “You are the lucky one,” they said, “If only my guy was like him….” Whenever the sentiment was uttered, it nearly made her scream.

A week later, he picked the children up again. Janey had hardly slept throughout the entire week. First, Lizzy had been ill and then her brother Johnathan had gotten the flue too. Yet now, when he came back, they were all well again. He would not have to clear up puke. He had enjoyed swimming, watching dolphins, drinking coconut cocktails. The smirk on his face as he remarked on her week from hell seemed to come straight out of hell as well. It was in that moment that Janey knew she had to do something….

Baking and cooking was her hobby. Had been for ages. It had been something Frank teased her with, yet he had enjoyed it while it lasted. Every bite she had provided him with had tasted good but he often chose to remark on her waistline instead. Never mind his own growing too…

It would be her birthday soon… Not her own, no, hers… Alissa’s… The witch that had stolen him. The wench that could have him… to have and to hold. She didn’t want him anymore… If only he didn’t want the kids so often. If only he hadn’t stolen them away from her.

A plan formed in her head. It was perfect… It would be perfect. A nice lovely birthday cake. A small one, just for the two of them. A lovely little lovers gift… Janey knew it was risky. But she also knew the solution… She would not be the one making it… and who could ever resist a gift from a daughter?
