Part 1

White, powdery snow covered the land, even though the sun was bright. The pups frolicked and played in the fresh snow from the night before. Timber had gone on a hunting trip with Asteroid and Galaxy. No one would hunt this evening because tonight was Winter’s Eve. There’s an old legend that says if a pack is good for a whole year, a mysterious white wolf named Holiday would visit in the night and leave food, along with other things like odd shaped bones and animal pelts.

It has been said that very rarely Holiday will leave a small, mysterious carved stone slab. Some say those stone slabs tell the story of Holiday himself. Others think they tell stories that are long forgotten. The thing is, no one’s been able to read them nor has anyone really ever seen Holiday.

Some claim that they’ve seen Holiday, describing him as a huge, white wolf. Yet, others say Holiday is a legendary golden wolf. As I was thinking and watching the pups play, and image flashed in my mind. It was a grey wolf with dark blue stripes on its head and back, along with a patch of dark blue on the front paws. The strange wolf was lying under one tree. On its grey neck, there was a large, red area. The snow under the wolf’s neck was also red.

“Solarflare.”

I snapped out of my daze to see that Timber was back. The pups were already chowing down on the old buck. “You okay?” Timber asked.

“Yeah, but someone else isn’t. Nebula, follow me,” I replied as I took off running with Nebula close behind me.

“What’s up?” she asked as she ran alongside me.

“And injured wolf under the Lone Tree,” I replied. A few minutes later, the tree came into view, followed by the wolf from the vision. I heard Nebula gasp as we skidded to a stop. “Can you help?” I asked.

“I’ll do what I can,” she replied.

Nebula pulled out some leaves, herbs, and cobwebs from the pouch she always carries. I watched as she chewed the herbs, then spit the mash onto the wound. After that, I helped her slide some leaves under the wolf’s neck. The last thing Nebula did was put a leaf on the herbs, then cobwebs from the edges of the leaf onto the wolf’s fur, holding it in place.

“Now what should we do? We can’t drag him back to camp,” Nebula said.

I thought for a moment, then said, “I’ll stay here tonight.” Nebula nodded, then ran back to camp. A few minutes after she was out of sight, the wolf began to stir. “Hey, take it easy,” I said calmly.

“Solarflare, the alpha female of the Bronze Fire Pack,” the wolf said. I was slightly freaked out.

“How do you know who I am?” I asked. The wolf chuckled weakly.

“My name is Revilo, but I’m better known as Holiday,” he replied.

I gasped. He wasn't like the stories at all. Revilo smiled as he got up. “Easy. You need to rest,” I said. He pulled the cobwebs off, causing the leaf and mash to fall to the ground. Once again, I was amazed.

His wound was completely healed. “I knew you would help me. You and your pack are the kindest, most caring wolves I have ever known. Therefore, tomorrow morning, a big surprise will come to you. Now, I must go. Farewell, and thank you,” Holiday said as a wind appeared under him, lifting him high into the air. When he reached a certain height, he stopped, looked at me and smiled, then took off running on the air.

I stood for a moment, thinking about everything that had happened. What could the big surprise be? I shook my head, then ran back to camp.
