1 - Maya
Maya Sheen hurried to her 2nd period class. She swung open the classroom door and shoved her things in her desk. She noticed that her best friend Shay was absent. Maya sighed. She was new at this school and Shay was her only close friend.
The social studies teacher Mrs.Green started to teach the lesson and Maya nearly fell asleep. She pulled out her phone and shielded it from Mrs.Green as she texted Shay.
Where are you?? Maya typed.
Sick:( Shay responded.

Maya pretended to pay attention as the seconds ticked past.
The very instant the period was over she let out a sigh of relief and grabbed her books.
