ALPHA

It’s half past two. There is an unusual quietness today. Everything seems very calm. The roads are almost empty. A boy in his early twenties is walking on the road alone. He is wearing navy blue jeans with a dark brown T shirt. The boy’s height is about 5’11. He looks skinny from behind and has broad shoulders. He is putting hands-free in his ears. His one hand is in the pocket of his jeans and the other one is free with a half used cigarette clutched in his fingers. He seems like enjoying his late night walk while listening some slow music maybe. He is almost near the town when he suddenly feels a cold shudder runs through his spine. His mind senses of someone chasing him. He looks around to see if someone’s behind the trees on the roadside. There is no one. He starts walking speedily. He again feels a cold air blow on his face. It’s not winter season but he can literally feel everything freezing around him. He stops suddenly. There is not a single noise from far. Everything looks like just stop there with him, even the strange coldness. He is thinking of running when someone grabs his waste from behind. He feels a hand holding his shoulder tightly from behind and the other hand making his head to move on a side in a way so that the area of his neck is exposed clearly. All of this happen in a blink of an eye. The person grabs his hands-free and throws it away on the road. He loose free his fingers and the cigarette fell down from his hand. He didn’t get the time to understand the situation when some strange needle like things pierced in the exposed area of his neck. The next thing he knows is that he is being kidnapped by some crackheads experimenting with illegal drugs.

“It’s the last time I’m asking you with all due respect.”

“WAKE UP!!!!”

He hears a fading voice from a distance. He tries to open his eyes. It’s all blurry. He can’t figure out what’s going on around. His head is hell heavy and there is a sharp sting of pain on the right side of his neck. He gives up on the thought of standing up after so many efforts to just open his eyes.

“WAKE UP, WAKE UP WAKE UP.” Someone is pulling his shirt and he finally opens his eyes on hearing his name.

“SEBASTIAN!! I SAID WAKE UP.” It’s his friend Alex calling his name and trying to wake him up.

“Sebastian, what did you eat or drink yesterday? You have been sleeping like a maniac since the whole day.” Alex shouts.

“Whole day?” he tries to speak and sits up on the sofa where according to his friend he has been sleeping since the whole day.

“ Yes dude, where were you yesterday night? I don’t remember when did you come back. And why the hell were you slept wearing these specs?”

“Huh? What, I don’t know. I am thirsty. I’m very thirsty. It feels like ages when I drink water last time. Can you give me a glass of water please, please?” He replies roughly in his deep heavy voice.

His hair is all messy and his face is looking so pale with eyes swelled with over sleep. He pulls off specs from his face and throws them on the table in front of him. He stretches his body in order to make himself awake properly but he still wants to sleep.

“yeah sure, take it and help yourself with the pizza on the shelf. I have to go to see my uncle, I’m already late because of you. I’ll come back by 10.” His friend says while handling him the bottle of iced water which he drinks in no time. He then left the room to went outside.

He takes a deep breath and stands up. His head is still spinning but he feels hungry and thirsty. He goes to the kitchen near the room, grabs another bottle of water and makes his way to the kitchen shelf. He sits on the chair and starts eating pizza.

“God, I’m starving.” He finishes his pizza in just 5 minutes and empties the water bottle.

“I’m not finished yet. I think I should go to the super store to have a quick bite.” His mouth filled with water on just thinking about the food.

He comes out and starts walking to the nearby store. When he enters the store, he senses a strange smell. It’s so overwhelming that it’s making his head dizzy. He shakes his head and makes his way to the corner where the fast food items are displaying. He starts checking the recent deals. He senses the same smell. He looks up in a hurry and sees a girl standing from a distance. She is wearing a grey color top with red trousers. Her hair is freely spreading on her shoulders. He starts looking at her while eating burger and drinking three cans of energy drinks he just bought on the spot. The girl notices his gaze and give him a look of disgust which makes him embarrassed a little. He moves his eyes to the other side. After finishing, he pays the bill and comes out of the super store. He sees that girl in front of him with a little distance standing alone. The only difference is that her hair is tied in a ponytail making her neck expose. He starts walking towards her unintentionally. He also gets angry at this act.

“What the hell I’m doing?” he thinks angrily.

The girl looks at him and gets angry too.

“Ah, it’s not like you are a pervert Sebastian. Besides she is not that pretty so forget it and lets just go home.” He speaks to himself annoyingly.

The distance is too little now that he can clearly see her face and the exposed area of neck which is irritating him. The girl also seems displease now. There are just a few steps of distance left when he stops abruptly. It’s the same smell he sensed before but it is too power full now. His heart starts beating so fast that he feels like it is coming out in any second. He looks at her with his clutching fists.

“What is it? What is happening to me?” he thinks annoyingly.

“It’s her blood. I want to taste her blood.” The thought is enough to make his heart beat stop and sends a wave of fear through his body.

“SHIT.”
