Chapter 1

The sand shifted under the girl's feet as she ran.

"You'll never catch me in a million years, Chase!" The girl laughed.

Her brown locks bounced all around her as she ran along the shore.

She always did love the ocean air. She's lived her whole life breathing in rhe air. The scent brought a certain feeling into the town.

"I don't think I can do this anymore, Harriet!" An unusual looking male called out to the female.

"Pussy," the girl, Harriet, mumbled.

"You're pretty pathetic for a demon," Harriet taunts.

"Shut up. I'm still considered a minor in the spirit realm and you know that, the male panted.

"Don't get your panties in a twist, Chase," Harriet nonchalantly says as she pulls her hair into a ponytail.

"Don't get your panties in a twist, Chasr," the male, Chase, copies.

"Never thought you'd have the balls to mock, Harriet," a business voice sounded from behind the duo.

"Colton!" Harriet yells as she turns around along with Chase.

Standing in front of them was another unusual looking male.

He had emerald green eyes, grey hair with blue tips, pale skin, a formal suit on, and looked sleep deprived.

"What are you two even bickering about, anyways?" The new male, Colton, had asked the two.

"Harriet tried ratting my ass out!" Chase complained.

Harriet was started laughing so hard that she was crying and struggling for breath.

"Not my fault you're easy to blame," the said female managed to breath out before breaking into another fit of laughter.

Colton just shook his head in disbelief before saying, "Y'all are who I have to watch over?"

"Yep!" The duo piped before going back to bickering.

"You two give me headaches for days."

"We love you too, Colt!" The troublemakers respond.

Harriet rhythmically tapped her pencil against the messy desk.

"Ugh," she groaned.

In response, Chase and Colton threw crumpled balls of paper at the back of her head.

"Jerks," Harriet mumbles while rubbing the back of her head from the assault.

Harriet looked out the window and zoned out.

Chase was hiding his phone behind a book like half the class.

Colton actually paid attention to the curriculum.

"Next week is the start of exams," Mrs. Martinez informed the class full of Seniors.

"WHAT?!" The whole Honors English class exclaimed.

It was a well known fact that no one in Jackson High actually paid attention. That's why the staff holds exams two times a year. They think it will torture us when in reality, we all make a study group with five smart kids to teach us.

You could be in any grade and still be a part of the study group.

The whole class was currently throwing fits before the bell rang. All the students jumped out of their chairs and dashed towards the door. Everyone was pushing each other as an attempt to get out of school and actually catch their buses.

Colton, Chase, and I hung back from the herd. We sat in the room doing homework while waiting for our other friends.

After about five minutes, two kids walk into the classroom.

"Well, well, well. If it isn't Mr. E-boy and Miss Navarro," Chase greets in a loud voice.

"Well if it isn't the King Of Gays, Mr. Maturity, and my favorite, Ms. Psychic!" An orange haired girl retorted.

The orange haired girl is Sofia Navarro. The "Mr. E-boy" is Leo. These are Harriet's two human best friends. Colton and Chase are her spirit besties.

"What's with the nicknames?" Leo was painfully obvious about the fact that he didn't understand what was happening.

"We just came up with them," Colton explains carefully to Leo because Leo was a leo and we didn't want any more problems to deal with.

"Do you have nicknames for us, Harriet?" Leo asked the brown haired female.

"No, I don't because I like calling y'all by first name. Unless you want me to call y'all by last name," Harriet looks at all of them with an amusing undertone.

Colton, Chase, Sofia, and Leo all shook there heads rather harshly. Harriet was surprised they didn't get whiplash.

"Where are we going for study group this time?" Sofia asks.

"We're going to the tree house," Chase and Harriet simultaneously said.

The duo looked at each other with hate filled stares.

"To the tree house we go," Sofia whispers.

"Hooray!" Colton says with painful sarcasm underlying in his tone.

Harriet scrolled through SoundCloud before choosing a good song to set the mood.

Harriet went to her notes and typed what song and stuff was at the first meet up.

Song: ARVFZ - TRCKRTRT by SATOR

Food: tortilla chips, salsa, ham and turkey sandwiches, and peanut butter cookies.

Drinks: Mountain Dew, Sprite, and Pepsi

Once Harriet was done typing, everyone had already gotten set.

Leo turned on an informational video for ELA. It was the only class that no one paid attention too. The teacher was a pain in the ass and didn't give two shots about your schedule. She just piled assignments and homework onto all of us like it's nothing.

Everyone was either in a bean bag or sitting at a desk.

The music was in the air. Everyone had their headphones in because they were listening to different videos to help study for exams next week.

Their were stories and jokes passed around during breaks.

It was getting dark really fast, but the five friends didn't care because they had already brought sleeping bags and extra clothes.

They didn't care if someone could look through the windows and see the girls. They were in the middle of the woods after all.

At seven o' clock, everyone paused their videos and started chilling after several hours of studying.

They hung up the curtains so it divided the area for changing. The girls got one side and the boys got the other.

After everyone finished changing, the curtain was taken down and everyone set out their sleeping bags.

Everyone crawled into he sleeping bags before it was lights out.

Harriet was just about to fall asleep before she saw a black, gooey hand crawl through the window.
