Chapter 1:

"Momma? "

"Yes baby? "

"Why do the stars twinkle? "

"Stars twinkle to tell us that they are watching us, protecting us "

"Baby? "

"Yes momma? "

"Do you remember the story of the Red Riding Hood? "

"Yes momma"

"Could you promise me something? "

"Yes momma. I'm a big girl! "

"Will you protect yourself from the wolves? "

"But wolves live in jungle momma"

"One day, I'm sure you'll understand what I meant"

"Momma, I miss daddy so much. "

"I kno baby."

"Momma, why are you becoming transparent? "

"Baby, I need to go. Your dad needs me. "

"Why momma? Where are you going? You said daddy is with those stars. Don't go to those stars momma. They will not let you come back, just like daddy! "

"Will you listen to Nathan? "

"But he steals my chocolates"

"He won't do it. I need to go now. Bye baby. Momma and daddy loves you so much"

"Don't go mom... Please stay.... Mom no. MOM! "

I woke up to find myself sitting on my bed, with tears streaming down my eyes and a thin layer of sweat on my forehead. My bedroom door opened suddenly and there stood my brother, Nathan, worry lacing his features.

"What happened Adiara? I heard you screaming. So I rushed in here. "

"I miss them so much Nate"

Nate sighed and looked up at me and then I saw the tears brimming his green eyes. The tears which spilt out the sadness from him. He sat next to me and hugged me while I cried my heart out. I heard his occasional sniffles which broke me down more.

"Why did it happen to us? " I whispered.

"I don't know sis. "

"Can't we ever be happy? Just for once. I'm so tired. "

"Maybe we Collins were born to suffer, sis. "

We both sat there, the silence in the room engulfing us. Slowly the first ray of the sun peeped through the window from behind the curtain. The ray signifying the breaking of a new day. But maybe it wasn't strong enough to rescue us from the darkness...
