Prologue
Kahlin watched quietly as her parents were slaughtered in the same living room that she had been raised in. She kept her hand over her mouth to keep the screams from jumping out.
She didn’t know what to do. She was scared. A new king had taken place and everyone called him the King of Bones.
No one liked him. At all. He was horrible and cruel, with a smile that was so sinister... even the bravest would cower.
Kahlin HAD to do something.
”You leave my mother alone!” Kahlin screamed just as the guard was about to lower the sword to her mother’s neck.
”Take the girl. King Rowan will know what to do with her.” The guard spoke to his ’friend’.
”I shall go willingly. Just... please do not kill my mother. I will do anything.” Kahlin sobbed, glancing at her worried mother.
”Kahlin, don’t. Just run and never turn back.” Her mother begged, her knees hitting the stone floor as the guards grabbed Kahlin by her arms.
”I love you, Mom and I shall never forget you.” Kahlin shouted, just as the door to her burning home slammed shut. The only living person in the house being her mother.
Her mother... who she would never see again...
