Prologue
“What have we done?” Azariah shouted getting out of the car. “We killed a man.” She shook her head.
“He tried to rape Roshni. You know it’s not our fault that he stood in front of the car.” Lola replied.
It started to rain and Azariah refused to get back in the car. She stood outside confused. She didn’t know whether to help the man or not.
“Listen Azariah, this man is going to die whether we take him to the hospital or not. Now just get in the car.” Ruby shouted at Azariah. “Are you deaf?”
“What is going on?” Roshni asked getting out of the car. “I have a headache, did we get into an accident?” Her eyes widened in shock when she saw the man on the floor. “Did we kill him?”
“It was an accident Roshni, calm down.” Azariah said. “What will we do Lola? He can’t die.” Lola got out of the car and felt the man’s pulse. She looked at Azariah and shook her head.
“I can’t go to jail.” Ruby shouted as she got out of the car. “Lola, I wasn’t driving, it was you.” Ruby pointed her finger at Lola. “You have to do something.”
“It’s raining and if we throw him somewhere, no one will ever know it’s us.” Roshni mumbled.
“But we can’t take that chance.” Ruby replied. “What if we cover him up and put him in someone else’s car. They will think they killed him and than make sure no one ever finds him.”
“Are you crazy.” Azariah shouted. “We can’t let innocent people take the blame.”
“Just tell me what happen, than we will think of a plan together.” Roshni said and Lola started telling her everything. How they stole his car keys and tried to run away with his car and how he came out of no where. Even though they hate this man more than anything - everything that happened is an accident. “Let’s take Ruby’s idea but ask Blade to help us. You know we just eighteen and Blade is twenty, he will know what to do.” Roshni added and Ruby started calling Blade.
“Blade will never agree. He can’t see someone hurt, he would never let criminals get away. You know he is innocent and he will try to get justice for this man.” Azariah cried.
“We not criminals and his your boyfriend, he will have to agree to save you from jail.” Lola said and Azariah shook her head.
“He can never hurt a fly, how do you expect him to help you get rid of this body?” Azariah questioned and Ruby gave her the phone.
“Ruby, did something happen to Azariah?” Azariah heard Blade’s voice. “Talk to me.”
“Blade.” Azariah mumbled wiping her tears. “I’m sorry, I know it’s late but can you please come to Common street, I need your help.”
“But what happ--.” She ended the call and started crying. “You want to use Blade, but he will never agree.” Azariah told them.
“That’s why I came up with the idea that we will cover this body and ask Blade to just carry it without looking at it.” Lola said and Azariah started laughing. “We just want him to take the body near the cliff.”
“He is not stupid to just follow your orders, blindly. Lola, trust me. I know Blade and he is very smart. He will figure out it’s a dead body.” Azariah told her but she didn’t listen.
Ruby found a blanket at the back of the car and gave it to Lola and Roshni. They pulled the body away from the blood and covered it with the blanket as fast as they could. It was raining heavily, so the rain washed the blood from their hands.
“He is coming.” Azariah shouted the second she saw Blade. “What’s going on?” Blade questioned and Lola jumped to cover his eyes.
“Azariah has a surprise for you.” Ruby said. “You going to have to close your eyes and carry something for Azariah. It’s part of your surprise.”
“I don’t trust any of you, so get your hands off me.” Blade told Lola but she refused to remove her hands from his eyes.
“Don’t you trust Azariah?” Roshni questioned. “She’s your girlfriend.”
“I do trust Azariah but I know you all up to something so tell your cousin to take her hands off me before I do it myself.” Blade replied.
“Please do it for me.” Azariah mumbled and he couldn’t help his heart.
“Fine but how will I see where I’m going if Lola keeps my eyes close.” Blade complained.
“I’ll guide you.” Lola said. “Now come on, go a bit down and just carry whatever Ruby gives to you.” She added and he picked the body up with the help of Ruby and Roshni.
Azariah just followed them as they went towards the cliff. She couldn’t help but feel sorry for her boyfriend. She knew what they were doing to him was wrong but she didn’t want to send her friends to jail - They would’ve never survived there, not even for a minute.
Blade put the body down just a few steps away from the cliff, after Ruby commanded him. Ruby and Roshni stood in front of the body to hide it from Blade.
“You can go now.” Roshni spoke and Lola finally let him go. He rubbed his eyes acting like Lola’s hands were too tight.
“So where’s my surprise?” He questioned looking at Azariah.
“Umm.” Azariah didn’t know what to say. “Bay, can we talk tomorrow. I promise I’ll call you.” Blade nod his head and as soon as he tried to kiss Azariah, she quickly turned her face making him kiss her cheek. “Goodnight.”
“Bye.” He walked away from the girls but he couldn’t help but feel like they were all hiding something from him. “The thing I was carrying felt like someone’s body.” Blade hit his head. “But I know it can never be a body, Azariah would never do such a thing.” He sighed relieve as he remembered how amazing she was. She can never hurt a fly, let alone a human. “But what could they possible do at this time of the night?” He questioned himself. “It’s raining and Azariah doesn’t like to stay in the rain for long so why would she be outside when it’s raining.” He continued. “I’m sure they up to something.” He turned to look at what they were doing but instead he saw them watching him with a smile. He waved at them and they waved back. “Can they be in trouble?” He asked himself and the second he was sure they were not looking, he went to hide behind one of the trees. “I hope nothing happens to Azariah.” Blade mumbled watching the girls.
“He is gone, let’s throw the body now.” Ruby suggested and they agreed. “Are you sure he is dead?” Roshni questioned and Azariah stood there watching them.
“I felt his pulse, his dead.” Lola answered. “Azariah, you have to help us. You also part of this.” Lola grabbed her head. “We going to take this secret to our grave. It was an accident, remember that.” She added as Azariah started crying.
They pushed the body off the cliff and Blade ran to them. He looked at the cliff and back at the girls. They all stood in front of him shock. Blade couldn’t believe it. He started shaking his head not believing it.
“Bay.” Azariah hugged him, crying.
“Don’t call me that.” Blade took her hands off him. “What have you guys done? Who did you kill?”
“It was an accident. I promise, I didn’t do anything.” Azariah answered. “You believe me, right.”
“You guys made me carry a dead body, Are you fucking crazy? Do you know you will have to go to jail now.” Blade shouted.
“Jail, are you crazy?” Lola shouted. “That man tried to rape Roshni.”
“That doesn’t make it fine. You killed him and threw him off the cliff.” Blade defended him. “You could’ve made him pay in a different way.”
“He is a billionaire, jail would never stop him.” Ruby replied. “But we never meant to kill him. It was an accident, he got in the way.”
“Then why didn’t you call the police?” Blade questioned. “I can’t believe my own girlfriend is part of this, seriously Azariah.”
“If you don’t trust her than why are you calling her your girlfriend?” Roshni asked. “She needs you the most now and you turning your back on her.”
“You smell of alcohol, just shut up. Why do you wear such a short dress if you don’t want men to---.” Ruby interrupted Blade with a smack.
“Don’t say that about Roshni. You defending a man who tried to hurt a women. I know his dead but we never meant to kill him. It was an accident, got it.” Ruby shouted.
“If it was an accident than I’m sure you won’t have a problem with me calling the police here.” Blade took his phone out and they looked at each other.
“Police? Blade, calm down please. I didn’t mean to smack you.” Ruby said panicking. “I’m eighteen, they will take me to jail and even if I’m not found guilty, I’ll have a criminal record.”
“You should’ve thought about it before you killed that man.” Blade replied dialing the police station’s number. Lola tried taking the phone from him but she wasn’t strong enough. “You all need to pay, you can’t just kill someone and get away with it. Even if it was an accident, a man died and you all want to act like nothing happened.” Blade replied. “A few years won’t make a difference. You will all have a fresh start after you are released.”
“Romeo, I’m not going to jail for something I didn’t do.” Roshni shouted. “And none of us would be able to survive in jail, Azariah is even worse. You know she can’t speak back at someone else, please don’t ruin our lives.”
Blade called the police again. “I want to report a crime.” He said.
“Do something Azariah, he is your boyfriend.” Lola pushed her.
“Bay, please don’t do this.” Azariah begged grabbing the phone from him. “I will never survive in jail.”
“A man died, Azariah. You can’t just forget that. I know you will never be able to move on.” He replied trying to get his phone back. “Give my phone, I’ll tell them it was an accident so they will reduce your sentences.” She shook her head and they all started fighting over the phone.
“Give me the phone.” Blade shouted grabbing the phone out of Azariah’s hand. The second he took the phone from her, he slipped and fell off the cliff. “Azariah.” He screamed.
“Blade.” Azariah shouted trying to jump off the cliff but the girls stopped her. “Bla--de is down the--re.” She stuttered.
They were all in shock but they couldn’t let Azariah jump after him. None of them could believe what just happened. They don’t know how it happened, but they knew one thing. It was no ones fault. This was just an accident just like killing the rich man.
“My Blade.” Azariah sit down crying. “He can’t be dead.” The other girls sit next to her.
“Riah, we have to leave. He is gone, we can’t stay here.” Roshni said after a few minutes. “Let’s go.” She added.
“No.” Azariah shook her head. “He loves me, I know he will come back for me. He would never leave me.”
“Azariah.” Lola shouted getting up. “Listen love, I know he loved you a lot but he is not coming back. He is gone and right now, we have to leave.” She cupped her face. “Do you think he would want to see you cry?” She questioned and Azariah shook her head. “Now be a good girl and let’s leave before something else happe--.” She paused after she saw a girl watching them with her mouth wide open. “Great, just great. Another witness to our accidents.”
“I swear I didn’t see anything, I promise.” Amiée quickly mumbled. Lola and Ruby quickly took her to the car while Roshni was trying her best to convince Azariah to leave the place. “Please don’t hurt me.” Amiée added.
“I’m not going to hurt you. What you saw was an accident but I want you to forget it.” Lola said and Ruby took some money out of the car.
“It’s a lot of money, so just take it and disappear.” Ruby told her and she nod taking the money. “We don’t know each other so let’s keep it that way.”
“Okay.” Amiée agreed and run away as fast as she could. She was scared of them, that’s the only reason she promised not to tell anyone.
“I love him.” Azariah mumbled as Roshni and her walked towards the car. “It was an accident.” She added as Ruby started driving the car.
