Prologue

With a heavy heart, I laid a single blood red rose on his gravestone then straightened.

The times that we had together were memorable, but all I felt for him now was a twinge of regret that I was unable to see the person he had become.

I stole one last look at the stone that marked the name of my lover before turning away and walking out of the graveyard, hugging my wool coat tighter around my slim frame.
