Chapter 1
The day my Dad died, was the day my mother died. Well she didn’t literally die, but the caring and loving mother I once knew was dead, and like all dead people, probably not coming back.
We we’re like any other picture perfect family. Everyone was happy, until the day we found out my dad had liver cancer. His immune system was getting weak, and chemotherapy was not gonna save him. His death was inevitable, but something I thought I could prevent by just praying hard enough. Before my dad died, he had asked my mom to take good care of me. Well what a good job she did on following that promise.
For years she would verbally and physically abuse me. I felt like I had no one to turn to, expect for my one friend James. He was the only one their for me when it felt like no one else was.
Now if you speed up a few years later, I’m in high school just normally getting ready for a regular school day. But little did I know, this wasn’t gonna be any regular day for me. I walked to school like normal, because my house is literally right in front of my high school. James greeted me so we could have our usual morning chat. “Hey, Lilly, did you hear about how the anoroc virus is making people go crazy?” James asked me. “Are you seriously believing what the media says? Those rats would do anything for attention.” I replied. “But what if it’s really true, that the anoroc virus makes you go crazy?” “James, calm down I’m sure nothing like that will happen, if that really did happen then there would be no school today!” “But all the reports of people going crazy are coming out this morning, which means the school probably does not know about it. “The school most likely would know about this, and also knows that this stuff is all just a pile of bullshit.”
Our silly little argument was suddenly interrupted by Brad and Gina. The most annoying couple (thats probably gonna break up in a few days). “Ugh, its these two idiots” says Brad. “Do you really have nothing better to do with your time right now other than try to annoy people?” I asked. Gina walked closer to me. “You better shut up, or your dad wont be the only thing dead” she said. “Attention seekers” James called them and he dragged me away as I heard them cursing him. “They must be really low if they keep using that against you” James said. “Don’t worry their just annoying people looking for some attention” I replied.
I was getting sick of them, but its not like their was much I could do about them. Brad and Gina are the most popular couple in the school, and of course everyone loves them. So of course, its not like anyone would take my side. We walked in silence, and it was extremely awkward. “I think they’re the ones who are infected with this anoroc virus.” “Haha, you’re right about that” James said. James looked down at his watch. “Well, there is still 20 minutes till school starts” James said. “Ugh, why do we always come to school so early?” Suddenly Brad and Gina came from behind and took both our backpacks. Everyone started laughing. Of course they we’re doing this for the attention. “Give our bags back” I demanded the both of them. Brad had my backpack and Gina had James backpack. “Your not funny” I heard someone from the crowd say. Well it was good to know that we had at least some support. “Shut up party popper” I heard someone else say. Well now it was not good to know that I had started an argument. “They’re gonna break up soon anyway” someone else in the crowd said. Brad seemed to be offended and was going to tell the person off, so I saw this as my chance to get my bag from him. I slowly crept behind them to get my bag, as James did the same with Gina. Before we could grab the bags Brad turned around and held our bags high in the air. We could not reach it since he was like six foot nine. He held the bag high in the air, like he was mocking us for not being able to reach it. At this point I could see James looked like he wanted to punch their lights out. Sophie, who was a nice girl I spoke to occasionally came walking towards them. “Just give it up you two” she said. “Oh, we’ll give it up” said Brad “We’ll give it up to the river!” And like that they both started running with our backpacks toward the forest next to our school. Me and James came rushing towards them. Our backpacks had all our books and supplies and we’d be lost without them!
As we walked along the dark gloomy forest I was starting to get a bit scared. “James, I think we should go back we might uhh, get lost” “C’mon Lilly, nothing bad will happen and the path is not complicated, plus we have no choice, we can’t lose our bags!” So we kept walking down the path, and James seemed to be fascinated by the trees. But my senses we’re not being stimulated in the way his were. I was starting to get bored of just walking. “James, can we-.” My words we’re interrupted by the sounds of... moaning. “What the hell is that?” I asked. “It might be an animal that is hurt” James thought and rushed to the aid of the animal making that noise. e finally reached the source of the noise and was shocked to see what it was.
On the floor was Gina, laying in a pool of blood.
