Prologue

The moon waxed over a foggy evening in the west coast. Benjamin and his wife Alejandra has just finished tucking in their 5 year old daughter Monsë, as they walked to the kitchen.

“So John finally promoted me to the big boss today.”

“Oh that’s amazing! I’m glad your job is finally starting to get better for you.”

“Yeah. Things are start changing, but don’t worry, I’ll make sure we do this together. I won’t do anything without you.” Said Benjamin kissing Alejandras hand. Down the hallways leading to the staircase little ferry cane running down.

Unsure of the noise Alejandra followed it. Around the corner, Monsë came showing a frightened, panicked look.

“What’s wrong baby? Your supposed to be in bed.” Said Alejandra bending down holding her hands, brushing her hair out her face.

“Mommy I saw a mannoutside my window.” Alejandra looked at Benjamin concerned.

“W- What? Sweetie I’m sure your just tired.”

“No mommy I saw him. He was looking up in my window.”

“Show me where.” Ben said.

While walking to Monsës room, Benjamin pondered who could possibly be here around this time of night. Let alone, stalking a five year old child. Entering the room, Monsë led her parents into her bathroom, then pointed to the open window.

“He’s there.” Benjamin looked out hoping to see someone.

“Baby, there’s no one here.”

“No daddy!”

“Come on Mocha Baby lets go back to sleep. I’m sure you just saw a big animal.”

“Like a bear?”

“Yeah! A big grizzly bear. Grrrrr....”

“Grrrr!” Monsë and Alejandra laughed, while Ben stood at the door with a smile.

“Alright me and daddy are gonna go back downstairs ok.”

“Ok mommy.”

Walking out of the room Benjamin instructed Alejandra to wait for him in the living room as he walked outside. For a brief moment she watched him from a window, starring out into the woods surrounding a side of their house. Following him outside she stood next to him.

“You think there’s someone out there?”

“No. Like you said I’m sure she just saw something else.”

Together they looked out into the seemingly never ending woods.

“Let’s go in.” She suggested. Going back into their old worn down, but fairly stable house, Benjamin and Alex went to bed.

MIDNIGHT

The tree branches swayed, brushing up against windows causing a disturbance in Alejandras sleep. Woken, she sat up and rubbed the crust from her eyes and walked down stairs to the kitchen for water. Outside, it was clearly noticeable that it had been raining as it slowly continued to drizzle. When holding the glass cup under the faucet in the sink Alejandra looked out the window and her heart nearly stopped.

Outside we’re large muddy footprints leading to Monsës room. After dropping the cup in the sink she covered her mouth with her hand then went to the hall closet for a raincoat. Putting on the hood and some boots she walked outside to try and follow the prints. Slowly she tracked where this person was going and on the side of the house she found a ladder with a hand gun at the top.

It was set up to where the person was looking directly in her and Benjamin’s room. Horrified she ran back inside to inform him.

“Ben! Benny wake up!”

“What the hell Alex. What’s wrong?” He asked annoyed.

“There was someone outside. There’s a ladder and a gun. Someone is trying to kill us!”

“What? No one is trying to kill us. You are tired.”

“No no look! Look right there!” She told him pointing to the window next to their bed. Opening it Benjamin stuck his head out as his heart dropped. Seeing for himself he shit it then calmly told Alejandra to grab Monsë and hide while he called the police. Quietly but quickly speed walking out the door, Alejandra tried going into Monsës room.

But before she got there tmshe notices at the bottom of the stairs the front door was wide open. Ben happened to walk out at the right time. When he noticed he grabbed Alejandra by the arm and pulled her back into their room. As the we’re shutting the door Monsë came out of hers.

“Baby come here. Come to mommy.”

“No no don’t! We can’t risk her being seen.” They whispered. But it was too late. While Monsë tried going over to her mother the man who came in the house was on the stairs and saw her. With the hand gun in his hand he pointed it at her as Benjamin screamed “NOOOOO!”

Missing as he shot at her Benjamin pushed the man down the stairs and tried to fight him. Alejandra grabbed Monsë then tried to leave the house. However, as the two grown men fought he stil had the gun. Shooting Benjamin in the leg He yelled from the agonizing pain. Blood began to drain from his body making a pool beneath him.

“DADDY!”

“BENNY!”

The girls were terrified as Alejandra froze u sure of what to do.

“Baby run! Run, get out of here GO!” She said putti Monsë down hoping she would do so. The man stood up with the gun and Alex ran to Ben, but before she could even make it to him the man shot her twice in the back leaving her dead in the floor.

“MOMMY!” Monsë scremaed.

Startled, the man shot Monsë in the head not realizing what he had just done.

“NOOOOO!” Screamed Benjamin gazing upon his family who was just muredered in cold blood before his very eyes. The man left the house and ran out into the woods leaving more foot prints. Benjamin then tried to follow him but the pain in his leg was to excruciating he fell to the ground.

Crawling over to his dead wife and child he held them in his arms devastated and confused as to why this tragedy occurred....
