Prologue
Crimson fades to navy blue above the long stretch of interstate. Millions have passed over its worn surface, and this evening was no different than the rest other than the fact that he was one of the many crossing from New York to Pennsylvania. He hasn't left the state in well over twenty years, but this evening he's on a mission. This evening, the prophecy begins. This evening, the world begins to end.
"I'll be swifter than the speed of light
Carbon my body a billion years of time
You wake with the stitches over both your eyes
And deny me my body and all earthly delights"
The song echoes throughout the old truck in which he sits, a tattooed arm hanging out of the open window. His curly hair seems to dance with the chilly November air as the truck continues its journey south.
The last time he made this journey out of his home state was when his mother died. It had been a rough time for him, especially as he learned her death was not as natural as the doctors had believed. She had been murdered, he was sure of it. Though. . .
That is a story for another time, for tonight, the prophecy begins to take its course.
