Chapter 1
"JC!" Cameron yelled which was followed by a pillow thrown at my head as usual.
I burrowed my head into the pillow, turning over. "What?" I grumbled into my pillow.
"If you want me to drop you off, then get up. I'm leaving in ten minutes." Cameron said.
Reluctantly I uncover my face looking at the TV screen ahead of me. I sat up, planting my feet on the floor and rubbed my knuckles into my eyes. I stretched my arms above my head and yawned.
"Don't you have a job?" He asked setting a cup of coffee on the end table. I reached forward clasping the cup in my hands, blowing off some of the steam taking a sip and slouched back on the couch.
"Oh yeah, I forgot about that. What time is it?" I asked. I rubbed my hands down my face sighing.
"Almost nine." He said, flipping to the news channel. I jumped up checking my phone, it's 8:34.
"Let me freshen up, and I'll meet you outside in ten." I jumped up and gulped down my coffee. I ran over to the stairs, grabbing my bag before continuing up to the bathroom.
I tossed the bag on the counter and did a small breath check immediately regretting it. I searched my bag for a toothbrush and grabbed Cameron's toothpaste, brushing my teeth then rinsing with mouthwash.
I splashed my face with a little water and brushed my hair before packing everything back up in my bag. I tossed it over my shoulder and ran outside to the car. I closed the down behind me and looked over at Cameron.
"Took you long enough." Cameron pulled out the driveway. In less than seven minutes, we arrived at the entrance of the subway station.
Declining down the steps, I passed through the ticket turnstiles and went looking for my terminal. The smell of musty clothes and urine hit my nose as a train departing whirred past. I waited on the subway platform while people around me chattered either on the phones or to each other.
I walked up to the platform hearing bells signaling a train arriving. I boarded the train bumping shoulders with passengers exiting and getting on the train. I searched for an empty seat. I perched on the hard seat I flicked through my phone and looked at past messages to avoid eye contact.
The short fifteen ride left me in Lower Manhattan. I went to the overnight garage picking up my car. Before going to my apartment, I stopped at the grocery store to pick up some snacks.
I know I should be going to the gym like I usually do or actually doing something productive. But I'll do it later. No biggie. I grabbed the bags out the back seat and looked up at my apartment building.
It has a total of ten floors with four apartments on each floor. Using the money, I had left over from work I bought my place. It is a surprisingly cheap, each room comes equipped with washer and dryer.
I bought the place furnished which was easier for me than spending more money on furniture. I got the smallest apartment out of my floor.
I love everything about this place besides my nosey neighbor Owen. He organized this apartment warming thing for me and I declined.
He just doesn't understand that I don't want to be bothered. I barely be in my apartment anyways. I stay with Cameron most of the time.
But Mr. Russert, on the other hand, called the police on me some months back because he thought I was a drug dealer.
